It was exactly a year ago today that the first issue of All Hail Megatron was published.
Thus, today becomes the worst day ever in the modern calendar.

Facebook readers will have been following my latest Broadband tale of woe. Following the Broadband would not connect saga of weeks 20 & 21 I've had an absurdly slow connection - the engineer that came out then told me I was capable of getting 3meg. I'm a realist, I know I will rarely see this. But I reckon 1+ meg is reasonable to expect. Well just before the last trip to London I found a line speed checker at www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ and that told me I was getting 135k. Eeek, that's not good. I also found www.bt.com's estimated line speed checker and that said I should be getting 3meg as well. (By contrast it claims my Mum aught to get 5meg and she gets between 2.5 and 3.5) So after several phone calls to BT Mumbai they've managed to detect a fault at the exchange and we have an engineer coming in the next 48 hours. Watch this space Engineer coming tomorrow AM

And so the weekend has come. Now 3 days off!
Putting the computer in for repair tomorrow morning then off to Linlithgow for a medieval jousting tournament with the Knights Of England, which I am looking forward to immensely.

The gaffers at my workplace have struck my brother this time. A few weeks ago one of their workers that spends half of her time with her head up the gaffers arses got my brother thrown out of the department he had been working in for about three years and had him transferred into another department. Today, they threw the book at him in this new department for a rule that they have been letting other people get away with. He is currently working in a department in the factory where bacteria has to be kept to a bare minimum and, when they took a test of his hands today they concluded that he had too much bacteria on his hands and sent him home early from work and told him not to return until Tuesday. No problem there, I have to admit, but, other workers in that same department are notorious for not washing their hands at all yet nothing is said about them. Furthermore, they refuse to show him the paperwork proving that he has committed said offense. They have promised to pay him for the Monday that they have told him to have off work but the whole affair still stinks of the gaffers trying to stitch him up with something.
It's logical that they would pull such a stunt on him because he is one of those workers that they despise for two reasons. First, he was a member of the union at the factory and every member is despised to the gaffers and secondly, he, like me is the kind of worker who comes into work in the morning, does his job and then goes home at the end of his shift. He doesn't creep around the gaffers, he doesn't grass up his workmates and he doesn't do overtime - the kind of person that is pathologically hated by the gaffers.

It's taking the piss now. They seem to enjoy using the power they hold as managers to kick their workers around the floor like shit.

For Englaaaaaaaaaaaaaand! For gloryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! -Ralph But you're Scottish aren't you? Shouldn't it be 'For Scotland! For Glory!' Or maybe you're trying the same kind of thing that Switzerland did with Celine Dion in the Eurovision Song Contest!

Dad drove over from Bristol yesterday to see a day at the Ashes. Not a great day of cricket, what with Australia being too good and the rain coming on. Still, nice to have an evening in the pub with him afterwards.
Today was the Cardiff International Food & Drink Festival, in the miraculously repaired Cardiff Bay. I dunno how much I spent, but I had a medium-done prime venison steak in a bun and a bottle of Septimus Spyder Medieval Brewhouse Ginger Beer for lunch, and came home with four venison burgers (two containing chilli, all now in the freezer), two hand-made free-range Scotch Eggs (one 'Chilli', one 'Baz'), two large wedges of apple strudel, a 250g soft blue Welsh cheese and 200g of olives... stuffed with chilli.

Had a better end to what started as a pretty angry week. Having my birthday at the end lifted things up somewhat.
During the middle of the week, Mum called to wish me happy birthday for Friday and talk about a whole bunch of family things coming up. She gave me some bad news that my dog Jack isn't doing well at the moment. Jack had a cancerous growth removed at the vets and he's been having some problems. The way and tone my mum spoke about it seemed like Jack could be on the way out. Jack is having to be watched a lot right now in case of any complications with his health.
I am aiming to get to my folks sometime soon and spend a lot of time with Jack as possible. Jack has never forgotten me, even when I moved out he still remembers who I am.
Some of you guys actually met Jack in 1998 when he was a 7 month old puppy at the Bristol TMUK meet.
End of the week marked lot of birthday fun with friends, co-workers etc. I went bowling, played 5 player SNES Bomberman and watched Blu-Ray Kung Fu Panda till 3am in the morning. Hardcore I know.
The day after marked a daytrip to Weston Super Mare where George revealed to me that a new addition to the family could possibly be on the way.

Phil, belated congratulations to you and your good lady wife.
After three days at work which were a high-speed tail-chase as I tried to get things squared away before I went on leave I am luxuriating in the knowledge that I don't have to go into the office all next week.
I am rather looking forward to being able to put my feet up, do a bit of reading of a nice pile of books that has acculumated and get some walking in if the weather continues as it has done recently.
The weekend began in fine style with the Jousting at Linlithgow Palace. a journey back into the past to observe combat on horse and on foot with swords, lances, flails and staff as well as feats of archery and musketry. The sun was streaming down, making for a fine bright and warm day into the bargain. Combining that with excellent company on my odyssey through time made for an excellent way to start my holiday.
Now all I have to do is decide what I want to do for the next few days. I look forward to it even if the answer is "not much at all"

Glad you had a heroic b-day, Ken!
Been using the interweb to identify three butterfles that visited my garden whilst I was reading the Qur'an after Mass (!).
The comma butterfly was easy enough, followed by the green-veined white (or a very close realtive thereof). Struggling a bit with the little brown one with orange spots. I think it might have been a Duke of Burgundy. Could possibly have been a wall brown, but I don't think so. I'm seeing photos of Nickerl's Fritillary that look just like what I saw, but they're not supposed to be in Britain. Hmmm, a mystery, that one.

The 'Spectular Jousting' event at Linlithgow Palace was most splendid yesterday. Some fine ham acting on display indeed. Seem to have burned myself rather badly in the sun though, and by jove I'm feeling it today.
Popped laptop in for repairs yesterday. Fingers crossed the problem has been identified and I get it back tomorrow, hopefully without being stung too badly in the wallet.

Phil, I'm sorry.
The venison/pheasant/rabbit/pigeon pie seems to have done me no harm. Probably not city pigeons then.

Haven't had a good curry this year yet. Unfortunately, the local Indian takeaway is in bandit country and after the trouble I got into last time walking there I decided rather firmly it was a no-go area. I'd like to not get my head caved in.
Supermarket ready-meal curries are ok sometimes but don't really cut it compared to a well-prepared fresh curry. Yum!
