Okay, this one is a shot in the dark, but heck, someone might know of this!
When I was little, my Primary School several reading-scheme books. These were books that started simple and got harder and harder, to encourage us to learn to read. The most memorable of these was one called Tim and the Hidden People.
There were 32 books in all I'm told, about a boy called Tim and his magical adventures. He had a magic cat called Tobias, and fought ghosts and witches and evil tree stumps. The whole thing was a sweeping story arc about good vs evil, and it all built up to this climax where all the villains were after him, and he was going to this legendary tomb of people turned to stone or something, and...
...and my school never had the last book. I looked and I looked, but it seems they had them all apart from that one. It has been one of my ambitions to reread the series and find how it ended.
The only problem with this, is that it is impossible to find. The original books go for ridiculous prices online (about 10-50 quid /per book/). There were four reprints done a few years back, with the illustrations in black and white rather than colour, but they are all out of print and impossible to find. Like, literally impossible. A new publisher has bought up the rights, but does not intend on reprinting it.
Apparently a CD floated about on ebay years back with scans of the series, but I've not been able to find any info on it anywhere apart from a few brief mentions.
Does anyone else remember this? More importantly, does anyone else know how I can get my hands on this stuff for less than a year's rent!
Here is the only website I can find. It is a bit rubbish, because the content is done in flash but badly, so it stops abruptly (but you can read it all by viewing the source, tut tut). www.timandthehiddenpeople.moonfruit.com/
