Well, if it was lowering his IQ after every time, it probably couldnt' have been helped.
Of course, he could have not drunk the lighter fluid in the first place. I guess if it didn't kill him / make him obviously ill though, then he might not have realised the problem until it was too late.

still, you have to be pretty dumb to think that by drinking oil and stuff you would become a robot!
I mean he was like 9 when he started right? I could maybe understand a 3 year old doing it, but not a nearly double digits kid

Not sure why a 9 year old started drinking gasoline. There may be other details that aren't being shared in order to not get in the way of sensationalising the facts.

he said he drank oil to be like Optimus, well I've never seen optimus drink oil in the animated series (any of them) and his ftaher said it was 5 years ago whilst watching the animated series, so that was during what? the Unicron Trilogy? Wwhen did prime drink oil in that period?

He's a robot. Robots drink oil. Logically, he was copying Optimus Prime. Not the Iron Giant, oh no.
And just cuz it was five years ago doesn't mean it has to be the series from five years ago. It coulda been anything from the mist of history. Gundam, Macross, Go-Bots... anything.

The only time that I can recall a TF drinking oil is in the UK comics when some of them visited Old Maccadams Bar. Although chances are its just a wind-up so that the family can jump on the bandwagon what with the film out in the cinemas.
