Quite a few errors in this feature in the new issue.
BW out in 1995 - the pilot was APril 1996 while not in the UK until Feb 1998. not 16/9/96 - that might have been the date The Web 1.3 was shown in US.
Skips BM/RID.

Wow, that's pretty basic research failure there!

Maybe the writer of the article had to take a break halfway through one of the episodes?

Hmmm. 5 minutes asking for proofreading on any TF board would have sorted them out!
I look forward to my issue tomorrow. Mostly for the sweets.

You'd expect that they would get people to buy the DK Ultimate guide written by Simon Furman when working on features - or they must have a copy in the office.
Simon stated he only looked up on BW after he got asked to do the 1997 botcon comic. 1995 was the end of G2 line with the laser rod Prime.

Dear lord that was badly researched - and so much stuff is left out! Beast Machines, RID, Unicron Trilogy, and Universe/Classics no longer exist (this may not be bad in the UT's case); there's no mention of the brief early 90s period where Europe had TFs and the US didn't, which you'd think kids might get a kick out of; no mention of Titan's G1 trades; no mention of frigging Diaclone...
The impression given is that nothing happened from 1986-1993 and nothing non-G1 comic from 1999-2007.
Though I do admire their bravado in putting #1 of Titan down as an important Transformers milestone.
Really, this should've gone on for at least a page longer and include some extra stuff, like the early 90s Euro toys, RID kicking off several years of TF animes and bringing back real car transformations, etc .

I thought it was badly written indeed. Kids can cope with full sentences and paragraphs, FFS.

Just saw this today... god*dang* it, back when the comic was in the works, I contacted Steve White and proposed a segment like this as an ongoing feature to educate the little'uns. I didn't get anywhere, but I did flesh the idea out some more in my private time to try re-pitching it again later once the comic had established itself... only I never did, and now look what happened instead.

Just read it myself yesterday and thought it was pretty piss poor. Laziness of the highest order that a ten minute trip to wikipedia/tfwiki would be able to flesh out far more than what we were presented with.
A more substantial feature along the lines of your idea would have been far more satisfactory. It might be worth trying to re-pitch it anyway Chris. If any of the younger readers respond to the 25th feature they might do more and better you tackle it than the person responsible for that article.

But why pay for decent freelance material when someone already on staff at Titan can belt out a half-baked article at no extra cost?

Ta for the vote of confidence, Andy! Just went diving through my old hard-drive to see if I still had the pitch images I slapped together, and hey, I do! This is just a bit of clumsy Photoshop work, but here's was how I saw part 1, as a "before TF" intro: And then part 2 was about 1984... this is unfinished, visually speaking... you'll note my movie-centric approach to characters... Then part 3 would have been about 85.... part 4 the movie... and so on and so forth, essentially covering each year of G1 in a double-page, then covering post-G1 lines in one spread each (one for BW... maybe 2? ...one for BM, RID, Arm, En, etc.) Might be worth dusting this off, actually.

With the recent interest in Transformers any book book publisher would probably be happy to publish a TF book if it was written well. You could try Dorling Kingsley who published Simon Furman's Ultimate Guide or maybe even another publisher that specialises in such books such as Paragon.

Like, write a book? I wouldn't even know where to start, legally speaking... It's usually ok to do fan publications ie fanzines as long as all that is being made back is to cover printing costs and you include the legalise in the indicia. I haven't been sued yet. Or maybe as a feature for CT? -Ralph

Well look at AP's Cybertronian and Mad Norwegian's Prime Targets. So long as you make it clear it's unauthorised you are usually pretty good.

The Prime Targets book is an excellent TF book. For anyone who hasn't got it it gives reviews for all of the Sunbow cartoons and the Marvel UK and US comic books as well as a complete list of all toys that have been released over the years. A essential book for anyone who's interested in reading that sort of thing.

Never having read Prime Targets (and to be honest, never having heard many good things about it!), I'm not sure of its content. The thing on my mind is the amount of pictures, photos and artwork from other sources that I'd ideally want to use, as seen in my roughs up there. I think that's where it falls down, legally, but as I say, I don't really know...
