Which Transformers, in your opinion, have inappropriate or unsuitable names based on their alternate modes/characters/functions? And what could they be called instead?

Why was Sideswipe called Sideswipe? In the Movie they tie it in with his blades - but the original is red with a rocket pack so he can fly. [apart from Ironhide, Blue streak who also can fly with out big rocket pack on there backs]

I always figured Sideswipe was named for his not quite by the book fighting style.

Blue streak got his name because he talks like a Blue Streak not because of his colour.

Of course, his blue language had to be toned down for the children.

Arcee: How did she get that name? Arcee. RC. Arsey. Typical woman. Why ever do I keep getting dumped...

I think they just looked at Blurr & decided just to give that mode wheels.

Springer: he is neither a spaniel or a bed...what's with the name? He isn't an outrageous American chatshow host either! I read once that Jazz got his name because his cartoon voice actor Scatman Crothers was at one point a jazz musician. I don't believe that for a second though because surely the name was given to the character before the voice actor was chosen. There are several unfortunate names given to TF's. Inferno is one. Sure he transforms into a fire engine (hence the name) but on Cybertron what was his origin of his name? Did he go around starting fires or something?

Seaspray. It's kinda filthy when you think of it. So is Grindcore.
I'm proud that name of us have mentioned Erector yet.
Damn.

I think it's more on the site of Shockwave. If he was human sized covered up with a sheet & you pulled sheet off - he would slightly scare you with his mono eye.

Especially if he pulled the sheet away from below!

A soundwave actually sounds like the invisible ripple through the air caused by flatulence.

Springer: he is neither a spaniel or a bed...what's with the name? He's got super-springy legs that allow him to leap huge distances - a power that he barely ever bloomin' uses in fiction.

Is it also because he's obsessed with Arcee's super springy boobies in TFTM? Surely.

Other than the comic story 'Wrecking Havoc', I'm struggling to think of times he did the leaping thing. Did he leap in War Within II?

The only other time I can think of is a "sort of" in "Target 2006," when he did make a big ol' leap, but the art rendered it as if it was assisted by jump-jets on his back. IIRC, that is.

You do remember correctly.
Think he did leap in WW2 and I think he might have done in Alignment.

I believe he also used his leaping skills to escape Flame's prison in City of Fear
