The BAFTA nominations were announced this morning; Transformers hasn't had a look-in. Okay, it was never going to win Best Film or Screenplay but a nod in the technical categories might have been expected, especially for visual effects. Shia, though, has been nominated in the Orange Rising Star category, voted for by the public.
There were no Golden Globes nominations either, but that doesn't have technical categories.

Five years ago, you wouldn't have thought you'd ever read the next sentence. Transformers is up for three Academy Awards. The film is deservedly nominated for: Sound editing Sound mixing Visual effects The nine individual people involved have clocked up over fifty Oscar nominations between them, including wins for King Kong, LOTR TheTwo Towers, Cocoon and Spider-Man 2. Full nominations lists and biographies at www.oscar.com .

I remember seeing a member on a US board pledging to eat his entire TF collection if the Transformers (2007) film won an Oscar. I hope the footage will be put on YouTube!
Congratulations to the guys behind the special effects of the film, the nomination is genuinely deserved.

As I felt the sound editing and mixing were excellent, these are deserved nods. I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to sound design and editing, I must admit. Sound is one of the things I tend to key in to. I think TF is in with a shout for sound editing though has more of a fight on for sound mixing. Looking at the nominations, 3:10 to Yuma may just pip it in that category.
Also deserved is the visual effects nods. While the designs didn't appeal to me, I can't deny the robots were extremely well integrated into the picture. Can't comment on the other films in the category as I haven't seen them.

I see that young Shia won that BAFTA award. Good for him.

In four of the past five years, the winner of the VES' top prize went on to win the Oscar in that category. That bodes well... Mx

The sound mixer of Transformers (who has been nominated for an Oscar 20 times but never won one) was interviewed on Radio 4 this morning about his chances this year. "07:45 We spare a thought for the biggest loser in the history of the Oscars." You should soon be able to hear it on-line here (for limited time only): www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/listenagain/Friday 0730-0800 isn't linked yet but soon should be. Martin

It's there. Unfortunately, I refuse to use Realplayer because of its Nortonesque tendency to take over everything. I shall download Realalternative later.

While people are on the Radio 4 website, Doctor Who fans and haters of the Star Wars prequels may enjoy clicking the "Listen again" link on this page: www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/comedy/chainreaction.shtmlHalf an hour of Catherine Tate comedy-interviewing David Tennant. First time I've heard anyone on Radio 4 describe certain films as "shit". (David: "No offence, Euan. It wasn't your fault.") My surprise discovery of the day: I can listen to this stuff without any delays or pauses even on dial-up. (Provided I steer clear of Hub pages containing Mechquest ads.) Martin

On the bright side, that bloke on Seibertron.com won't have to eat his entire collection now. It'd be a shame to see all those toys go to waste.
