Rename the robots!

Suppose you couldn't change anything about the two live-action films except the names of the robots, and possibly their colour schemes. Which ones would you change, and to what?

Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Jetfire, Megatron, Frenzy, Ravage, Scorponok and Starscream are fine as they are. Probably leave Sideswipe and Arcee alone too, except for making Sideswipe red.

I'd certainly change the name of Reedman (Ravage's pal) to Buzzsaw.

Skids definitely needs a different name, as Skids was one of the most intelligent, high-ranking, noble Autobots in the comics. I'd probably call him Tailgate. Tailgate and Hubcap, the Twins could have been. Or Tailgate and Wheelie, with Hubcap being the remote-controlled car who switches sides.

I'd change Jolt to Tracks, just based on the colour scheme. Or maybe Bluestreak, since he had an electricity gun. I would also change Ironhide's name to Trailbreaker, and I'm tempted also to change Ratchet's name to Hoist and throw in some green and orange to his colour scheme.

Some obvious ones - Blackout/Grindor would become Vortex, the tank Devastator would be Brawl.

The Fallen? Apart from Dave, I might have preferred to call him Thunderwing, I think.

Soundwave... hmmm. Might have given him the name of Shockwave instead, then he could come down to Earth in film #3 and take charge. He did seem to have the role of military strategist / co-ordinator in this film, as well as communications.

Scalpel - I'd change him to Bombshell, what with his cerebro-shell squirmy thing.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I was actually giving this some thought myself for the first film... thinking how all the Decepticons bar Megatron could have just been Combaticons.

As for ROTF, I think I'd pretty much agree with your choices, Martin. Though I might leave Scalpel as is; I always wanted the Decepticons to have a "doctor".

Swap Jolt's and Sideswipe's colour schemes and I'd go along with Bluestreak for Jolt (or Silverstreak as he'd more likely be now), with Tracks for Sideswipe, as I've pondered elsewhere.

Bonecrusher could have been Onslaught.

Grindor etc should have kept the same names as in the first film.

Barricade could have been called Roadblock - basically the same meaning, but more policey.

Sideways could have been Runabout or Runamuck. Personally, I think it's confusing to have two silver car toys (Sideways and Sideswipe) on different sides with such similar names. Also, having a Battlecharger name would allow for an obvious repaint.

Topspin and Twin Twist come to mind as possible twin names.

Great ideas, old boy. Esp the Skids bit. Skids was my joint first ever TF and as such as a special place in my heart. Seeing this mockery of his name on screen filled my with RAGE!!!!

And lovin' the Buzzsaw, Bluestreak and Bombshell ideas.

Soundwave to Shockwave eh? Interesting, interesting. I did really love Soundwave in the film, but Shockwave would certainly have been a looming menacing presence in orbit instead.

I like all the names, but would have given the Arcee's individual names (ie Arcee, Chromia and Slipstream(?<my insert name for purple one>)

Maybe Sideswipe as Tracks, just cos he reminds me of him a bit is all (for obvious reasons...lol)
