In next month's SFX, on sale 6th May. The best SFX gifts were in the mid 90s with the trailer CD-ROM and the episode guide books they put out. Those were the days!

Best freebie ever was a book of extracts from er, other books. It introduced me to Terry Pratchett.
Sadly, SFX long since vanished up its own bum.
Is it the last general SF mag though? TV Zone, Starburst and the Cult one seem to have quietly vanished from newsagents.

Dreamwatch is still around, isn't it? I'm pretty sure Smiths still stock Starburst. I'm not really sure what's around these days, as I don't read magazines as much as I used to.

It did? Oh well.
There's a mag called Sci Fi Now, which has been running about two years. That was the only general sci fi mag that was on sale in Tesco a few days ago.

So far as I can tell, the general SF mag market has shrunk to that and SFX.

It seems that the publisher had funding problems last year and couldn't pay to print any issues. There weren't any issues for months and they eventually published everything as a bumper quarterly mag at the end of last year. Death Ray switched to a bi-monthly publication schedule at the start of the year. Each issue is 180 pages and costs 4.99. They're obviously slower than Scifi Now and SFX for news, but the features are often better written and demonstrate a wider awareness of the history of sci-fi. In particular, it's a great magazine for book and graphic novel reviews.

The current issue of SFX (Harry Potter cover) has a 4 page feature on the Sunbow cartoon and a preview of the new movie.
You get a free Battlestar Galactica mouse mat (the last supper scene) if you buy the mag from WH Smith.

Sci-Fi Now has a lovely looking Starscream cover and interviews with the cast.

There's a new magazine out called Fantastique, the first issue of which has a choice of Terminator or Transformers covers. (So far I've only seen it in WH SMith, where they only had the Terminator cover. Boo.)
Total Film also has a cover feature, whilst Empire has a smaller piece. Kid's comic, Toxic, has Transformers content and includes the sticker album.
