Looking like our holiday is being extended here. A shame about the lack of running water! Ah! I'm at home with running water, but no heating - and due to it being a condensing boiler - no _hot_ water. Currently wrapped up in my new (second-hand) fleecy top. Was going to go down to the GP surgery today and register to get my repeat perscription online (seeing as they have announced they are no longer doing repeat requests over the phone). But given that there was no bus service at all to my road, and the Campus to town bus service only "sort of" started running at noon - and it promptly started to snow again forty-five minutes later... Yeah. staying put today instead. Karl

We just tried to go out for a walk. We couldn't get out the front gate of the farm we are on the drifts are so high. Farm owners say they barely got out onto roads earlier in a tractor. Guessing it'll be Sunday before we even try to leave. Maybe Monday.
Worse places to be trapped though. We have food and heat and nice hosts. And books to read.

Most community services have been shut this week, including certain emergency and high needs services which has made my working days extremely stressful and my back has completely tensed up.

The snowpocalypse has also destroyed the Open University website. It's been offline for four days now! Blamed on the weather, apparently. Luckily I got this week's assignment done last week as there was no website in operation on the due date!

If the website was unavailable you'd have been allowed to submit after the due date. The person who needs to physically reset the server it is running off prob can't get in.
The road outside the farm we are on was ploughed and gritted late yesterday and not much more snow fell overnight. We are going to take a run at getting onto the A road a few miles away and then onto a motorway home...

Just back from a 6-day holiday - 2 nights visiting my sister's family in Liverpool, 2 nights in Chester (where I got to handle a golden eagle and a python at the excellent Chester Cathedral falconry) and 2 nights in Shrewsbury before returning to Cardiff today.
Getting to Liverpool last Friday was a challenge. I was determined to go, so although there were no buses or taxis running I set out in the snow in my wellies to see how far I'd get. Walked to the station in under an hour, through deserted streets in what is normally rush hour. Almost all the trains were cancelled, but there was one running to London, so I followed the advice I was given and travelled on that to Reading, then from there to Birmingham and then on to Liverpool, and arrived before 3pm. Not bad considering all my work colleagues were having the day off because it was too hard to get in to the office.

There is snow on one of the hills we can see from home down here. But none of the other half dozen or so to either side of it.
According to TV news there is a big band of snow heading up across the UK either tomorrow or Monday. Internet weather has Yellow snow warnings up but no actual snow in their hourly forecasts.

So much rain here this week our fence panels are falling apart in the huge winds of the last couple of days. Some emergency fence panel repairs this afternoon. Thankfully I had some nails long enough to do the job. Can't rate the quality of the surviving wood.
