Four fence panels gone, all of them broken. I HATE fence panels. I spend every bloody holiday fixing fucking fence panels. Ordered four immediately because nowhere will have any tomorrow.

I won’t know of any damage until I can get home. Counting on trains being back on tomorrow.

I know, I know, but he'll do a better job than me and bribing him with a Biplob is cheaper than getting a man in

Ironically, today is an INSET day for me so the kids were never going to be in school anyway, but most schools seem to have closed around here. I'm working at home. I do feel the north/south divide with this. My sister lives in a remote village up in Northumberland and was without power for well over a week in the last big storm, then had another few days without it when the next one showed up. Yet there was only reaction to that in the media afterwards about how terrible it all was. This time, down in the south, everyone's being made to panic and the media has gone mental about bracing for the impact. It does feel to me again that the closer you are to the home counties, the more important events seem to be deemed. Same when it's Scotland. -Ralph

Famous last words: the kitchen lintel appears to have given its all and is now bowed and leaking (damp). We'll need to get the builders in.

We seem to have missed the worst of it here. Guess being right in the middle of the country helps? Been wet and windy, but nowhere near the chaos seen elsewhere.

Thought we'd escaped, but remembered to check the loft and have discovered the beams are saturated so several tiles must have slipped. How long will it take to get a roofer, I wonder.
