Anyone else get the storm? It rained last night, but I don't remember hearing a storm. Heavy rain started here about an hour ago. Full Time Wars here overnight with thunder, lightening and flooding elsewhere in the town

Back to home learning for a day tomorrow. Schools everywhere round here are closed. Wasn't expecting this level of worry. I hope the fence panels survive.

I don't. The storm hit Tameside very close to us. Wind is still high.

The wind and rain last night were quite something else. Huge storm damage in the two towns Ralph mentions. They lie about midway between the two of us so I think we were both quite fortunate to have avoided it all. Other areas of Tameside have also had damage but not quite as severe. Really grateful we had leaks etc in our own roof repaired this summer.
Mrs M says some of her colleagues are in the tornado area and have had damage. One says her garden etc was absolutely wrecked but the house itself was somehow left untouched.

Staylebridge isn't in Manchester either. Staleybridge is in Greater Manchester - a geographic notion which encompasses both Manchester and parts of a number of other areas. Just as Northamptonshire encompasses both Northampton, where I live and Kettering, which is a completely separate place. (Similar to how Greater London encompasses a large number of places in addition to London itself). Trust me, my sister used to live in Stockport which is contiguous to Manchester and is also encompassed by Greater Manchester, but is definitely a distinct place to Manchester. Karl

As a local I can confidently say that Stalybridge is in Manchester and that locals regard that as being the case. Stockport has a much stronger separate identity as its own thing within Greater Manchester.

Folk round where I live are pretty firm that they do not live in Manchester. This makes sense to me, as I have to go on a train, bus or tram if I want to go to...Manchester.

I think only the ducks and swans are happy around here today! Roads flooded, lashing it down. Apparently Thursday will be nice, which will be good as having my gates repaired then.

Some fences down in the area including our neighbours. Might finally force them to fix the gate between our properties which will finally make it safe(r) for Naomi in our garden as their big barky dog might be contained.
