I was given a clipping from today's Times, not somewhere one would expect to find Transformers film news. "As shooting for Transformers 2 starts in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the film blog www.slashfilm.com posts a letter apparently sent by the production managers to local residents that aplogises in advance for "military helicopters, large-scale pyrotechnics, prop guns and squibs". Hopes fade for a low-key, character-driven approach to the second film in the robot-warrior franchise." (Trust The Times not to resist a snobbish little jibe. That's someone called Wendy Ide, by the way.) I had a look at slashfilm but left immediately as there were major spoilers signposted.

Ah, Wendy; more concerned with being annoyed at Shia's surname than writing a balanced review of the first film.
But I have to say: Transformers is character-driven. The Autobot characters did a lot of driving after all!
