I don't mean the future of the franchise, I mean the future of _your_ Transformers.
Rather than another speculative thread about whether you could consider getting rid of your entire collection, or all but one, what future do you envision really for your TFs?
I only have about fifty-something TFs, none in boxes, and I'll probably give more of them away for nothing in the coming years, along with my comics, just keeping those few with most sentimental value and my trade paperbacks for the rest of my life.
What about the rest of you, particularly those with really big collections. What do you plan to do with them eventually?
Anyone think they might really one day establish a proper model-railway-type display museum where they could be properly appreciated and give joy to the public?

I like to think that mine will be passed down to any offspring who will appreciate them, but I think I'm just kidding myself there.

I think anything bought after 2000 could eventually be parted with. A few have specific sentimental attachment but the majority I can judge solely on the quality of the toys.
Some things between 1997 and 2000 I could also under the right circumstances see partinf with.
Everything before that I just cant imagine parting with. What that means in the long term I don't know.

Well, I'm sure some of them will be given away or charity shopped especially post-2000 toys if they have no 'character' attached. Like last year, I can see myself donating some to Toy-fu so Mary's Meals gets a few coins and someone else appreciates toys I don't want anymore.
One of the reasons I do youtube videos is to share the collection. When I'm able to afford an HD camera (hopefully next year) I'd really like to make decent quality slideshows of the approx 30 pages of original TF comic art and convention sketches I have so I can share them with other people.
In general, if I look at something TF related that I haven't seen/read for a while and feel no 'glad to see it again' emotions then it goes. I see my collection as being fluid rather than fixed. It's not the length of time I have something that gives something enjoyment but how I've appreciated it when I had it. Toys like Armada Tidal Wave or BW Neo Big Convoy were great toys. I just didn't feel the need to own them forever.
The only absolutes I can never see myself parting with is my childhood Metroplex, Brave Maximus toy, the TF comics that survived the teenage purge, my original art/sketches collection, my copy of Eugenesis (still the best TF story in any medium), the collection of Japanese TF books, fanzines I've worked on and other TMUK zines I've picked up over the years. That is because all of these have an extra specialness to them and would be very hard or impossible to reacquire.

I will likely keep my The Transformers and Transformers: Generation 2 collections until I retire.
The rest (i.e. more recent) I tend to enjoy for a couple of years then sell on.
I like the museum idea. My office at home has a couple of glass-doored cabinets to keep my TFs dust free. Visitors can look but not touch!

I will give my figures to any kids in my family who love them enough (if I have kids myself, that kid will have robots forced upon them )

I think it's always important to take breaks from Transformers (and indeed, any other hobby) or it can take on an exaggerated importance or become boring or taken for granted. I learned this from my teenage obsession with Star Trek where I consumed all things Trek to the point of exhaustion and I can barely look at an episode of The Next Generation now as I went overboard on that particular hobby. It may look like I think about Transformers all the time because I post here daily and do a video most weeks, but often I'll do a few videos at once and stick them up weekly as inventory while not making any new ones and/or I'll post here but not look at any TF comics/cartoons/news sites for a while and/or I'll refrain from purchasing any TF toys (even if I have the cash) for a while. Keeps everything fresh. Same with other hobbies I have.
So, for Transformers to have a 'future' with me, I must never overdose on it. I almost packed it in when daily work on fanzines betwen mid 2005-mid 2006 meant I was becoming lost in the hobby to the point where I was coming to hate it.

None of my TF toys have any sentimental value or were even purchased with silly amounts of money (the most I've ever paid for a TF toy is £50). I could easily get rid of most of my collection (which isn't too big anyway) and not shed a tear. The only ones I won't part with are the one I like the look of like a few of the Classics toys I acquired a few years ago and the two Alternators toys I have.
Some of my toys are currently just lying around gathering dust because I have no real interest in them like the 2007 movie toys that transformed into things like binoculars or mobile phones (I can't remember the name of that toyline) and the odd Energon and Cybertron toys that I have.

In the immediate future of my collection is a cull, me thinks. We're planning on moving house soon, so, stuffs gota go.
Tell you the truth, the move is just the excuse, I've been thinking 'bout a cull for sometime. My tastes in what I want to collect have settled down in the last few years, and I no longer want alot of the stuff I have collected.
But, collections like my Alts/MP, Titaniums and older TFs, such as G1 and Beast Wars, I never plan to get rid of, I will take them to my Cyro chambre to be awakened with them 1000 years later. Then they'll be worth a mint!

Realistically I'd like to hand mine down to the kids when they're old enough (and when I have them), but it would break my heart having to sell them to make money.

When I look at my collection and consider which TFs I have affectionate feelings for and which leave me somewhat cold despite being technically brilliant, they divide as follows:
Toys that bring me joy: - Optimus Prime - First 18 large Autobot cars - First 11 Mini Autobots - First 6 Strike Planes - The Insecticons - The Constructicons - Blitzwing and Astrotrain
Toys that are good but which I wouldn't miss: - Jetfire - Megatron - Soundwave - First 5 Cassettes
It's partly that I got those toys later on. It's partly that Jetfire is too big to interact with the other vehicles. It's partly that the ones that turn into guns and cassettes can't interact with the vehicle TFs in those modes.
I wouldn't be surprised if I gave Jetfire, Megatron, Soundwave and the Cassettes away in the next few years. Jetfire may go first.
