Up until today I didn't know that the Brian De Palma/Al Pacino Scarface film was essentially a remake of a 1930s gangster film.

Today I learned from the Science Channel that if you leave an egg in vinegar for 24 hrs, the shell goes all rubbery!
I now intend to try this myself.

I just saw a bird pecking on the front lawn that was completely unfamiliar to me. After rummaging through my book on birds I have discovered what it was - a jay. A very distinctive bird. Now I will always know what it is when I see one in future. Martin

^^ WE learned not to wait until the very end of conventions to start talking to people. Not sure this counts for the thread tho'.

Two days ago, a high school girl told me that tuna fish is really big. I was always under the impression that tuna was small, and that only Japanese tuna was big.
Isn't tuna small, or did I learn something I didn't know from that girl?

I learned today that the tree octopus does not exist. How can they know something doesn't exist? Have they looked in _all_ the trees? Martin

I learned of the tree octopus in a Terry Pratchett novel I started reading this afternoon. Upon some research I find it is apparently an infamous internet generated myth. I am glad. Octopus creatures frighten the shit out of me. I couldn't cope if I knew that they could climb trees and drop down from them on vines, killing people.

I learnt a couple of years ago the interesting fact that the common octopus is the only invertebrate (i.e. non-backboned) animal considered as a protected species in UK law with respect to animal experimentation. The implication is that they're darned clever for squishies. And Gavin would need a special permit to do to them what he does freely to his spiders... Martin

Its depressing that this shocked me: originally in Pokemon, Clefairy was going to be Ash's starter pokemon...and i've been thinking of the possibilities ever since

.................your joking?! I'm shocked they would even consinder THAT! well when you think about it, Clefairy and Pikachu are quite similar, they have the ear markings, the cheeks, the adorable eyes, they both have a pre-evolution who evolves via Happiness, and they both evolve by an evolutionary stone.

Missing Orchestra?
The last time I sat through a karaoke the only thing it was missing was a singer who wasn't tone deaf!

They are a bird I remember from my childhood. I actually saw one on Sunday afternoon.

well despite the non-transforming componants thing he does look brilliant, and frankly, if the parts did all become smaller robots too, then he would likely be way too difficult for any kid, and therefore not really sold etc I love that you can push a button, his head flips back, mouth widens, he screams, and then I can throw a whole load of Autobots inside to be eaten up. I showed my friend in Canada this on MSN the otehr day, and she was just mesmerised by the awesomeness of the mouth The transformation is simple, but not overtly simple, the only bad side for me is Mixmaster...his electronics go off with minimal movement in vehicle mode here's a link to a picture I took of him, with the twins (for size comparison :3 oracleaesir.deviantart.com/art/Devastator-140906020

Today, I've learned that the new series of Sarah Jane Adventures is on twice a week, Thursday and Friday. Stupid BBC. It's a good thing they've got the i-Player these days.

I learnt these the other day, but rembered today, that there is no rank of commander in the US Air Force, and that military US pilots aren't allowed 'soul patch' beards. Both of these are contradicted in All Hail Megatron issue 1!
