I have some good news.
I received a telephone call at lunchtime offering me a job. I'll be working as an Employment Advisor with Ingeus UK in the Edinburgh office with a start date of 23rd of November*. It's a well-paid proper job with a company that's rated very highly in surveys and number 24 in The Times's '100 best companies to work for'. It'll be my job to help people on the Pathways to Work scheme into sustainable and relevant employment.
I'm in complete shock to be honest. I can't quite wrap my head around this sudden reversal of fortunes.
I plan to spend all of next week actively searching and sourcing somewhere to live either in Edinburger or within a reasonable commuting distance.
Bugger me, frankly.
-Ralph
*Hardcore Doctor Who fans will know this as the anniversary of the first episode airing in 1963. I am the Doctor!

CONGRATULATIONS RALPH! I knew you would get something good eventually.
Looks like its going to be just me and Gav Spence holding down the fort as the West Coast Scots Contingent soon. How will we cope should the Dire Wraiths or Daleks attack?

You'll still have Torchwood Scotland, whoever that strange man might be. Clocks go back an hour tonight, folks. Live your inhibitions between 1 and 2 am and then put the clocks back and have that time to live over again as if it never happened! Or something. Computer just told me I needed to upgrade to AVG 9.0, which I obediently did. Whilst installing, it told me to uninstall ZoneAlarm as they were incompatible, which I disobediently didn't. They seem to be working fine together so far. This morning... to the model railway exhibition! Martin

A nice and amusing clip for Saturday evening. I'd find the opposite more amusing - editing Gordon Ramsay or Cartman from South Park so that instead of swearing they spoke of wretched hives of scum and villainy and suchlike. The model railway exhibition at the UWIC campus around the corner was most impressive - eleven proper layouts on display, that must have been brought in segments in vans by their creators and connected together. All highly detailed and depicting various eras of the past. A very artistic and creative hobby - and no doubt expensive and time-consuming too - and one I came quite close to myself for a few years in secondary school. (The boys who weren't into sport were into railways, and had a working model railway in the school basement - though much cruder than the ones on display today. Some of my friends had them at home too. I never started collected/building myself but did enjoy other people's sets, and even flirted with the train-spotting thing for a short while, until I got bored. Don't knock it - it's educational and gets you out of the house.) It was interesting to note the differences and similarities between today's model railway exhibition and TF conventions. Both are predominantly attended by males, though this one with a considerably higher average age - though there were a lot of dads with their kids too. Both are nostalgia-driven. Both have dealers/traders selling models/toys, and books, and artwork, and there are some videos playing. No celebrities at this one though - all the admiration is directed at the creators of the model layouts, who are amateurs. Model railways are also a much more peaceful hobby than TFs - maybe more popular with men old enough to have seen a real war? Pity we're unlikely to see such impressive model layouts ever in a TF convention, though I suppose it could be done - if someone selected a cast of TFs all to scale with one another and with a particular model railway gauge, you could have a large model layout showing a TF incident on Earth. But I muse idly. The rest of my day has been occupied with food-shopping, leaf-sweeping, cat-hosting, Trumpton/Camberwick-Green-watching and cheese-pie-making. And eating of same. Martin

I suppose Pete Waterman (of Stock Aitken & Waterman fame) would attend a big railway models convention because he is a massive fan of collecting model railways.

Been improving my photography and photoshopping skills over the last week. I'm slowly building a decent portfolio for Photomedia class.
I have a Doctor Wholiday Reunion night this Sunday, where I have a small acting part as a Cananite. I think the evening will be streamed live if anyone is interested in seeing some wooden acting (mainly from me). The church Dalek will also be in attendance.
Belated congrats to Ralph on the job front. Awesome news!
