If the Titan comic was priced the same as Overkill 15 years ago
52 pages monthly 1994 99p [no free gifts]
While IDW where priced Marvel of 20 years ago
60p 1989 monthly
Would you enjoy collecting the comics more if there had these prices on the cover instead of paying £3 - £5 an issue.

Absolutely. But it is all comic prices that are absolutely ridiculous, especially how quickly the devalue in price. Lovely trade collections are the same price as about 3 issues, which are also riddled with adverts.
Personally, I'd like to see comics being made more cheaply, on cheaper, less glossy paper but for a larger price discount, with the nicer paper being used for when they come out in trades.

It'd make the ok but nothing special stories a bit more palatable, but for the more incomprehensible stories that make my brain hurt before the end of panel one no price reduction will help.

Panini Collector Editions are now great value. 5p less than the cost of 1 US comic for three issues worth of content per comic. I've started picking them up as there are some Marvel series that I just want to read rather than 'collect'.

I don't want to see comics being make from the same paper Marvel used in the late 80's. When i picked up some issues of X-factor dated 1988 - 1990. The paper was thin & the printing was below standard compared to some issue of Uncanny X-men around the same time which had slightly better internal paper. This was when the issues where just 5yrs old. Compared that to the UK Transformers comics which are mainly in better condition.

My girlfriend works for a book publisher and informed me that the price of the different types of paper is negligible. The cardstock IDW uses on the covers though, I spend many an hour lifting comics and IDW are without doubt the heaviest. I'm sure that ramps up their shipping costs. Maybe if they can make more money via digital distribution they could lower the cost of the single comic, but it's highly unlikely. If anything was to lower in price, I'd guess the TPBs.

It wouldn't make me enjoy them more, I might buy more of them I suppose, but probably not. I'm a trade person now, can't deal with boxes of comics anymore whatever the price.

I think the prices these days are ridiculous but I still buy TF comics and have no real problem paying for them because I don't buy any other comics. My average monthly comic bill is about £15 - £20 sometimes only a tenner if IDW haven't released certain issues by the time I come to picking them up.

The high price of individual comics means that for Transformers (and other titles) I buy far, far less than I used to. This does not translate into buying more trades, for me. The higher cost of 1 trade compared to 1 comic means I follow less series than I used to. I'll also only tend to buy series in trade format that I'm likely to re-read due to the higher cost.

The paper used in New Avengers/Transformers #1,2 - the comic is lighter than just one IDW comic. But do Marvel use this thinner paper because they have larger print run - not just the cost of the paper. That quicker to print there stock than using card stock.

Comics costing more really isn't lending me to trades, as the trades have also gone silly, especially in shops (ie not with Amazon discount). I've barely bought trades for about a year, admittedly partly as I've got way too many anyway, but I just baulk at the price.

I've been picking up Cyclonus - Sideswipe up in signal issues compared to paying £15 for a trade collecting 4 comics. Currently spent £8.34 on 3 of the issues & just need to get Hardhead. If get that one for £2.40? so with that - its £4 cheaper to get the comics.
Cyclonus cover b £2.40 Doubledealer cover a £3.20 Sideswipe cover c £2.74
While Max Dino's i still need #2,3 but got #1 £1.57 #4 £2.29 #5 £1.74 £5.60 - then just leave £4.80 for last 2 issues - still £5 cheaper than trade.
