I wan't feeling imaginative so I took to Wikpedia which reminded me that 44 is the international dialing code for the UK and that 44 is a happy number.
Lots of running around this week.
My Skype works now and I'm philip.ayres1 I used it to talk to a friend in SA yesterday. For free.

Tell her to swap "watch" for "Supreme" lest she finds herself on the 32A service to Divorcetown.

The night cleaners at work added another feather to their cap last night. Not contented with making large dents in machinery, spraying water into light switches and knocking door handles off doors they now are also experienced at dragging machinery from one end of the factory to the other without unplugging it first! The result: two pieces of machinery without plugs and two plug sockets with unattached plugs in them!

Popping through to Edinburger on Thursday afternoon to begin search for accomodation. Pretty stressed out with it already, surprisingly. There is a paucity of places with actual heating and it's very hard to judge location and size of flats from afar.

Having previously lived in a flat without central heating for nearly 9 years and considering the sharp rise in rental prices (and with me moving in the middle of winter), heating is a priority for me. It's a joke that some people still charge x amount of money for no heating in a cold country!
I still shudder at the memory of how cold that toilet was!

Things are taking an interesting turn at work for me. On the odd occasion at work over the past month I been deliberately signing my name as 'Joe Bloggs' on one piece of paperwork I have to fill in knowing that it will never be found out because the gaffer whom I hand it into doesn't do his job and check the said paperwork like he should. Yesterday, my supervisor who claims to be 100% against the company and will never grass anybody up did exactly that to me and today the gaffer who is supposed to check the paperwork handed my a disciplinary hearing letter. So, tomorrow I will have to attend a hearing explaining my actions and hope that it doesn't lead to me being shown the door.
The whole thing is all my fault which I have no problems admitting to but, the gaffer should have found out about it earlier if he had been doing his job and not only discovering it when somebody grasses me up.

I wish to murder my national rep now, she is a total b1tch. She knew perfectly well that I had alot of orders to deal with today, and yet, at 4.40pm (20 minutes before I physically leave) she asks me to do a large order, she is really getting on everyone's nerves now of course

Thanks for all the optimism. There are a few people who have escaped with just a slap on the wrist from these hearings but there are others that have been shown the door through them. Considering that this is my first disciplinary hearing in the seven and a half years I've been there I hope it will be the former.

Unfortunately it didn't go in my favour. I was given the sack for gross misconduct and now I'm back among the list of jobseekers.
I immediately registered with an agency so hopefully something will come out of that.

Gross misconduct is things like theft and willful damage and things like that. Surely they can't sack you for putting a fake name on paperwork? Unless, there's more to it than you're letting on, young man?!
In all seriousness, you should think about taking the matter to a tribunal. I call unfair dismissal and claim loss of earnings. Seriously.

They called the whole affair gross misconduct claiming that the paperwork was incorrect and if an auditor examined the paperwork then it could mean curtains for the business. The odd thing about it is that they sacked me for that reason but they refused to take any blame themselves for not checking the paperwork as I had been doing this for a few times in the past month and it had gone unchecked until my supervisor grassed me up to the factory manager.
As far as I can work out, as soon as the paperwork leaves my hands and is signed by the supervisor as being correct then it is passed onto the factory manager to check it and then onto the QA team to also check it. The fact that my supervisor signed it without checking it, handed it to the factory manager who also didn't check it and then onto the QA team who also didn't check it makes me think there is something more into all of this. I suspect that they wanted to offload me because I'm a member of the union that tried to get into the place earlier this year but were waiting for me to make a mistake before they did so.

Did you get to resign / get an agreed reference, or will it go down in references as gross misconduct? Graham - that probably can count as forgery of official documents, so yes could be labelled as gross misconduct. Heck, some places can (and will) identify lateness as gross misconduct. EDIT: here's an interesting blog that supports a law book: etclaims.co.uk/ , it also suggests you might have a good chance of taking them to tribuneral. Definately look into this.

Contact the auditor and suggest they check the last few months paperwork for errors. Or is that vindictive? Andy That wouldn't really have any effect, the dismissal for errors in paperwork would satisfy the auditor that errors have been identified and action taken.

I didn't get to resign. They called me in for the meeting, discussed the subject at hand and then sent me out for about five minutes while they came up with a verdict. They then brought me back in and told me that I had been sacked.

Just read through this weeks events.
Bloody Hell, Zudo. Really sorry, buddy. But, If I may be so bold (as bold as one in fairly protected-unless-I-kill-a-patient job can be), you're better off out of that hell hole, judging by the chaos/crap you've told us about on here. I've worked in similar (although no where near as bad) establishments as that in my past and I know how terrible it can be. Smart guy like you will soon land on his feet (joing the Ambulance servie- I'm not joking).

Very sorry to hear of your dismissal, Zudobug. I hope that a positive that comes of this is in you quickly securing a job with better working conditions. Don't lose momentum: polish up your CV and get job searching right away. Have a look in your area to see if there are any local agencies who can help with job searches, CV's, etc.

Wow, that didn't take them long, did it? Got to wonder if the union affiliation played a role as you mentioned. Well, I hope you can pick something up quick smart. Good luck Zudobug.

Really sorry to hear about your bad news Dave, I hope things work out for you. If you do have union representation might be worth challenging it, but you might want to wash your hands of a shit company to work for. All the best.
