Some good insight/thoughts on Ahsoka here... www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8GQpLiJWRMTonight's episode was decent. Actually felt like Star Wars at times, but might suffer from viewers needing prior knowledge of characters to appreciate. {Spoiler ooooh}Same actor playing Thrawn as in the cartoon.

I completely forgot about this show after the first two episodes! Genuinely fell out my head until now. Hmmmm.

Don't worry. All the characters are still doing exactly the same things as they were in the first two episodes.

Oh dear. Zombie Stormtroopers no thank you. Sabine getting full control of the force without any further training, sigh.
Curious what they do next though, a shame they're locked into JJAbrams canon. And I guess they'll have to ditch the best character on account of the actors sad passing.
Finding this sparsely populated planet Thrawn and Ezra have been living on a bit of a hard sell. It just so happened that the place following the events of Rebels they ended up at was the location of the original Night Sisters before they came to the SW Galaxy... and there's only three of them? I feel like I missed something?

I feel like I missed something? Spoiler I wouldnt call it full control. She did a thing, twice, when absolutely neccesary. Pretty much like everyone elsein Star Wars since 1977.
As for the planet I guess its another planet with strong links to the force ( certaintly given the statues Baylon is looking at) and the space whales travel between there and Lothal because use the force to guide them. The Night Sisters, like Ezra and Ashoka will have travelled between galaxies by hitching a ride, so less coincidence and more just where you go if you travel by Whale.
Hopefully Baylon is recast, CG has its uses, but anything but relatively brief uses has yet to work well, especially when the actor is no longer alive.

I never returned after episode 2. Did anything happen or can I jump straight to episode 8?
Does Ashoka develop a personality?

Go to half way through ep 4 just to contextualise Ep.5.

As for did anything happen, no, not much. It's fine: generally portentous, rather dreary but there are some nice set pieces. You can definitely skip to the last episode. I can't see it building excitement for the films that follow.

{Spoiler}I'd have been happy cutting them some slack with that in terms of the rules of the Fantasy genre. There is a long tradition of Fantasy epics having quite a few of the events hang on the workings of Fate bringing people to the place that "they are meant to be" at the right time. So pretty much anything like that is easy to shrug off as "The Will of The Force". I don't find it terribly satisfying, but when you are dealing with a fantasy setting running on magic-wielding swordswingers, demi-gods, prophecies and similar stock components it tends to come with the territory unfortunately. Spent eight episodes thinking I have no idea what cartoon from years ago I was meant to have watched before this, but that still doesn't excuse the complete lack of personality or happy circumstances making everything work here. Thawn and the old not-Jedi bloke were the only interesting characters and Thawn's personality seemed to be to pretend he didn't have one and signifying this by never untucking his hands from behind his back. This is down there with Boba Fett for my least favourite SW product and I think largely for the same reasons.

Largely a pacing, motivation and plot armour/sense of threat as issues I think.
If it was a 90 minute special, there's 3 clear acts that could be focused on where people actually talked about why they want to do the things they do, even in throw away comments, it would work much better. Surely someone somewhere is working in a fan edit.

Thinking about it I could enjoy a second season more... ...as those stuck in the other galaxy explore it while looking for a way home (why stay on a hostile planet of witches and bandits??) and back at home the Republic deals with a resurgent Empire under Thawn and the Witches.
That *could* be interesting to watch.

Some enterprising fans who sourced original theatrical prints of the Holy Trilogy have been able to get them available at 4k via online means (nobody is charging for access I should say).
Watched A New Hope during the week, and it was a breath of fresh air seeing it again as I remember minus all the bells and whistles. Well worth seeking out.
Going to space out the watching of Empire and Jedi, make them feel like a treat, now when is the next bank holiday again (do not answer, I know it's August).

They are top. It's interesting comparing them to the despecialised project, but having watched both, the 4K project ones feel more authentic. BIG files to try and store though.

For the 4K editions I think Star Wars was about 50GB. Last I looked that and Jedi had been done properly, that was the same. Empire had a beta version that was a lot less because they haven't done a final version yet. Unless they now have.
