The full documentary that, that's taken from (off the 2004 set) is really good. There's also a bit with Peter Mayhew doing a line for Chewie - something like "That old man's crazy"

Starwars.com announcement.I wonder if the film is basically just the first few episodes in some form. Perhaps the actual episodes edited together or, perhaps more likely, episodes planned for TV revised as a film; maybe a planned feature-length TV pilot is instead being shown theatrically.

I've never actually watched any of the Star Wars cartoons as I don't think they do the franchise any justice whatsoever. There's also a CGI-style TV series on the way as well from what I've read in a recent newspaper.

Because when Dave Prowse said "Luke" he followed it with "right, Luke left, Luke right again, then if it's safe to cross...."

And I thought it had something to do with discrimination towards Bristolian accents.

A TF story in a similar vein:
In filming the closing scenes of 'Transformers', the script required Optimus Prime to look down respectfully at the broken remains of his fallen comrade, and call him by name, 'Jazz...'
On the first take, the performance left something to be desired, so Michael Bay stopped the cameras and asked Optimus to repeat the dialogue, only this time saying the line with awe.
Prime agreed, the cameras started to roll, the Autobot leader looked down and said, "Aw, Jazz..."
(OK, I adapted this from a probably apocryphal anecdote about John Wayne that I read at the weekend.)

I thought it was adapted from the joke in George of the Jungle.

I love that John Wayne one, it had me in absolute stitches. You didn't happen to read it in Ricky Tomlinson's "Celebrities My Arse!" book? Read it last week, great stuff altogether.

Nah, it was in some newspaper review of the new 'The Passion' TV mini-series, reminiscing of an earlier film, in which John Wayne was asked to repeat his line, looking up at Christ on the Cross, where he says 'Truly he was a son of God,' only with awe.
'Aw, truly he was a son of God.'

All this week the official Star Wars site will be having interviews and video's and stuff. Should be interesting. I'm looking forward to the ""Holiday Special" animation animatics video" though am already cursing the fact that the site no longer offers vids in easily downloadable quicktime format. Ooo sexy trading cards

Never thought I'd see the day when Lucasfilm officially admitted to its existence.
Where is my DVD, damn it?!

I'd only want a DVD release for the animated sequence. The rest was too painful to watch.

True. Sensibly most bootlegs seem to come with an option to just watch the cartoon. As for any official release it's been suggested that the animated segment could be included on a complete Droids boxset. Though unfortunately it doesn't look like a Droids boxset is ever going to happen. Now this could well ruin my week but I'm considering watching the Holiday Special again in the next few days. I will of course take the precaution of being ratarsed. But still, is this insanity?

I would buy a boxed set of Droids.
I have not only seen the Holiday Special twice, but the first time I was stone cold sober! I am a hero.

I watched it while drunk and it pained me. Thanks to Youtube there are plenty of copies of the animated segment online.

I especially enjoy the bit where a coked-up Carrie Fisher asks us all to sing about the tree of love.

I thought it was the tree of life, but I had had a few drinks by that stage (and still it wasn't enough to dull the pain......). I am slightly taken aback by the fact that Lucasfilm are actually willing to officially admit the existence of the Holiday Special. For a long time it had been well and truly disavowed. Perhaps it is in the process of being rehabilitated after its years in the wilderness.
The animated bit isn't that great, but frighteningly it is the best part of the lot....

How can you forget the fabulous bit when Thingy from The Golden Girls has a sing-along in the Mos Eisley Cantina? A tantamount to the endurance of the human spirit, that is.

I only managed about 15 minutes without alcohol and I ended up a complete gibbering wreck. Someone make this man a medal! I am slightly taken aback by the fact that Lucasfilm are actually willing to officially admit the existence of the Holiday Special. For a long time it had been well and truly disavowed. Yeah, although last year we did get a Holiday Special Boba Fett action figure and limited edition statue(though I think that just refered to it as "animated debut") and one of the CD's with the Star Wars Vault contained the aforementioned tree song - I'll have to take Ralph's word that it was about a tree, I really don't remember.

It was indeed just "animated debut", although the card-back did refer to the Holiday Special. That was one of the few recent Star Wars figures I have bought, it stand out front of my Clone Trooper squad looking lost and confused. Karl

I enjoyed the 'variety show' myself . Lucasfilm will acknowledge it now because they are likely to make a quick buck. ===KEN

And for £10 more you can have a set without it In other news I decided to have another look at my copy of The Star Wars Vault and discovered two whole pages about the special! Well one page and some pictures. But there is also some pages of the script included. Anyway one page includes the lyrics to the tree song. So sing along everyone... WE CELEBRATE A DAY OF PEACE A DAY OF HARMONY A DAY OF JOY WE ALL CAN SHARE TOGETHER, JOYOUSLY A DAY THAT TAKES US THROUGH THE DARKNESS A DAY THAT LEADS US INTO LIGHT A DAY THAT MAKES US CELEBRATE THE NIGHT A DAY THAT BRINGS THE PROMISE THAT ONE DAY WE'LL BE FREE TO LIVE, TO LAUGH, TO DREAM TO GROW TO TOUCH, TO LOVE TO BE

I'm looking forward to the ""Holiday Special" animation animatics video" though am already cursing the fact that the site no longer offers vids in easily downloadable quicktime format. Now being unable to download is annoying, but it's made worse by the fact that this flash rubbish only works on the fifth attempt of loading the page and then the video will stop and start making your viewing time about four times as long as the length of the vid. Grrrrrr. Anyway the animated bit (storyboard version with temp audio) can now be viewed here. Also learn to draw Chewbacca and family.

So the complete STar Wars Clone Wars season 1 DVD is out today. I don't have a blu-ray player, never had any interest, until now as I know there's extra content on the blu-ray. All I can say is bollocks! I'm going to have to get some version of it...
