Not long in from the Star Wars: In Concert event at the SECC in Glasgow. Absolutely marvellous stuff - the sound was great, which is quite surprising considering the SECC's usual acoustics, the choice of clips was fine and it all moved at a brisk pace. And, of course, the music itself is still brilliant. If anyone is pondering whether to go, I'd certainly recommend it. Jonathan

But which versions?
I was gutted when I bought the RATHER EXPENSIVE first release of the original trilogy to find it was a bare-bones release and had Hayden Christenson as a ghost in the end, which I had assumed was a crude photoshop joke on the internet before.

Despite the outrage on some parts of the internet, It hasn't actually been announced what versions will be included for the Blu-Ray release. Not saying there will be anything other than the latest versions, but right now we don't know.
I assume there will be a new version of TPM as a CG Yoda was shown in some clips on the ROTS DVD*. Speaking of which I'd love the Qui-Gon scene to be put back in ROTS. Uncut AOTC would be good too. If the original trilogy gets another update hopefully they'll fix the problems with the 2004 release - and if changes are being made, maybe now is the time to finally get rid of the matte boxes.
As I'm interested in alternate versions of things, Ideally I'd like every version of each film... but realistically I don't see that happening. So maybe include the original version and latest version with a short doc explaining the changes over the years.**
9 discs though. Wow. I'm curious about what extras there will be.
*Done as a training exercise for ROTS but I can't really see it not being used.
**Unfortunately I suspect we will just get one version of each film.

No matter what changes they make, they'll never be able to add on screen chemistry between Padme and Anakin. Seriously, what's the story there? Adult themed spoiler below kids so get a parent's permission... Did Haydn Christianson and Natalie Portman hook up before filming started and he couldn't get it up or what?

The herd of pigs in Willow probably had more on-screen chemistry than those two...
Isn't there a deleted scene in ROTS where Yoda exiles himself to the Dagobah System? (and two versions I think) It's been a while since I watched that on DVD.
The Qui-Gon scene sounds interesting. I only ever remember him being namedropped between Obi Wan and Yoda.

Yeah there's some good stuff in AOTC but it seems the main reason for Padme and Anakin getting together is plot requirement.
Can't remember if there were multiple versions but yep, Yoda going to Dagobah was one of the deleted scenes included on the DVD.
I really liked the Qui-Gon scene as it's Yoda saying "blimey I've ballsed this up a bit haven't I?". It's in the script (available in the art book) and novelization and I was gobsmacked when it wasn't in the film. There's a lot of stuff cut as I recall but I think that scene really needed to be kept in. In the film now it's just "yaddda yadda yadda. Oh by the way I've been talking to Qui-Gon".
Amazon tell me the set will now be released on 30th September.

The really really excellent redlettermedia review of Revenge of the Sith is now up. It is 1 1/2 hours long, but astonishingly entertaining. Definately worth a watch. www.redlettermedia.com/Seriously. Best review series I've seen.

Isn't there a deleted scene from RotJ on Tatooine with Luke building a new light saber and looking emo before C3P0 and R2D2 go to Jabba's palace.

Best review series I've seen. I watched the first few minutes and... I don't get it. If it's a parody of the over the top way some people hate the films... 1 1/2 hours is excessive. If it's someone giving their genuine view of the films... there's got to be a shorter way to do it.

That's a decent little scene. I don't see how that cant have been paced in with a final cut of the film, unless they wanted the green lightsaber to debut differently.

It gives away that the Lightsaber is hidden in R2-D2 which then spoils the fight scene. Best cut I think. I also strugle with the idea that Luke would have gone that long (ROTJ is a year after ESB) without constructing a new Lightsaber.

Is there any word on which versions of the films will feature of the original 3 films? Blu-ray has a lot of storage capacity so I assume they would all be there?

No word yet unfortunately which is worrying. But like you say there's lots of storage capacity and the only other thing being listed as on the movie discs are two audio commentaries. Commentaries won't eat up space: the Scott Pilgrim Blu-Ray had five and still managed to fit on loads of other things (such as those being listed on the other discs) so there should easily be room. Currently I'm back-and-forth between thinking 'there's got to be something else on there: why not the original versions?' and 'they're just going to leave the disc space unused, I know it'

But if Lucas publish them with everything no now, what will they put on when they announce the new edition in 2013?

But if Lucas publish them with everything no now, what will they put on when they announce the new edition in 2013? No, Lucas hates the holiday special and doesn't want it ever released. It is pretty crap to be honest, not even so-bad-it's-good for most of it. Easy enough to find online if you're morbidly curious.

I would shower Lucas with praise if he ever, say, allowed the Holiday Special to have a limited release with funds going towards charity. It would be in the spirit of it.

Yeah, it seems with every new release they imply that it's got everything, ever, as an extra. They lied to us, their resistance to the mind probe is considerable.

The first DVD release did at least have a decent documentary included. When they announced the two-disc editions (with theatrical versions included) I sold the film discs but kept the bonus disc.
RE: Jedi 2004. Even though I knew about that particular change before watching it, it still annoyed. A completely unnecessary way of tying the trilogies together.
