Paediatrician this morning with Jonathan. That's an hour of my life I won't get back.
Wireless adaptor on the laptop has failed. Again.

Bit of an aimless day. Back to Edinburger tomorrow to once again try to source a flat. This has already cost me a lot of money shuttling back and forth with no result so fingers crossed I can get something sorted tomorrow or I swear I will scream. It will be a sonic scream, and only Soundwave will survive.

Best of luck.
Today was spent prepping my room for the wallpaper stripping. Visitors to Turnbull Towers will appreciate just how much heavy lifting that involves! Plotted a couple more WWE strips and spent the rest of the day stripping wallpaper and working on a mobile friendly version of WWE. I'll let you guess which was the easier of the two activities.
Rounded off with some pasta and chicken for dinner and here I am relaxing on the net for a wee bit.
Best of luck tomorrow Ralph!

Had an enjoyable weekend but not really slept properly for the past few days. So bit of a lazy day today but otherwise I'm OK.
Unlike Ginge (aka number 2 cat) who has picked up a nasty skin infection somehow. The area has had to be shaved and the vet has supplied cream. Hopefully it'll go soon.

Have put fatter cat on a stricter diet. Fatter cat is not happy.

Diets never used to work with my fat cat! The slimmer the diet made her the more able she was to supplement her diet with wild caught prey and we were back where we started.

Just Emailed my CV off to a local job agency who has a couple of jobs I might be interested in. Good luck, Zudo. The Piglet, aka The Centre Of The Universe, has stumbled upon an exciting new way to argue back when asked to do something that she doesn't want to do. If, for example, you say to her (for the bazzillionth time) "Up stairs to get dressed, please, or you'll be in trouble." Miss Centre Of The Universe answers "No, you will be in trouble!". Marvelous. When setting boundries (all important), one should keep a straight face at least..... Piglet, aka Centre Of The Universe, really enjoyed Blackpool Illuminations this evening, that Mrs Shockers convinced me to drive all the freakin' way to. To me, just lights in different configurations (actually, some were kinda good!), to The Centre Of The Universe there amazing! Bless. Just finished four punishing day shifts. Now, surfing the net, drinking red wine, and got some Fleetwood Mac on thanks to Mrs Shockers rightly convincing me to listen to 'em- NOW I'M LOVIN' 'EM BABY! Good ol' Mrs Shockprowl.

Don't forget to catch the stuff about Fleetwood Mac on BBC4 on Friday night Ian !
Been to Bristol and back to fetch a cheap GI Joe toy that Ken has found me - thanks mate.
Liz has cooked chilli chutney today. Yes you read that right. It's lethal.

AAAAARRRGGGHHH!
Trouser zipper has come off the zip on one side, and because it doesn't have a bottom end to slide onto like a coat zipper, I can't get it to go back on again. What do you do with a perfectly good pair of trousers that would have a perfectly good zipper if it was only on its tracks, but which you can't get onto the tracks?! Surely I don't have to throw them out? But what else can I do?!
At least it happened in the loo when I was just about to leave work and head home. Thank heaven for small mercies.
Edit: I'm going to unstitch it and try to find the bottom of the zip track. I have nothing to lose.

Worth a shot, a zip fixing at a shop is a surprisingly expensive event.

Disgustingly hungover after a night on the absolute bender in Dublin. Stupid, stupid idea. Didn't want to pay the equivalent of £5 for a pint, so me and a mate snuck a few quarter bottles of red wine into the gig. Dying now.

Accomodation saga continues. I don't want to use the word 'stress' because that is a word overused to meaningless but it's definitely a strain. I didn't realise how much it was getting to me until I noticed a man shoting obsenities in the street and realised it was me.
Few more hoops to jump through. The Edinburgh rental market is ****ing insane.
Very much looking forward to sinking a few pints in good company tomorrow evening!

Liz was going away today, 2 days in Illfracombe. I was staying at home, Jonathan packed off to the childminder during the day.
7:30 this morning Childminder rings to say her kids are ill and Jonathan can't go.
So in order for Liz to go away, Jonathan and I have had to come to London to stay with Mum !

Successfully swapped out a dead drive in our company server today. I'm not the IT person - he's up in Canada, while I'm down in the US. And so is our company server.
Yeah.
Anyway, it hot swapped just fine and dandy and did not burst into flames upon reboot. This now means that the more powerful desktop he was prepping for an emergency server backup in case this didn't go well will now be sent down as a replacement for the replacement office machine that replaced the other one that ate both of its hard drives a month ago.
I might actually end up with a computer that's less than five years old! The current one is a 2002 vintage, and the one that died was a 2003. My bloody netbook runs circles around these beasts. Then there's the boxes that are attached to the microscopes, those are a good decade plus old each.
I work in a computer mausoleum.

Unfortunately everything regarding housing of all kinds in Edinburgh has become significantly more crazy than it was even two years ago. Karl I've been finding the experience sufficiently difficult that I think my next move 6 or 12 months down the line once the job settles down will be to move out of Edinburgh and commute in. It will cost me more but I'll be able to afford it then. I really can't be arsed with this level of hassle. It's given me a very poor first impression of what it's like to live there, I must admit. Hopefully, if I negotiate the next few hoops I can get moved by the end of next week. -Ralph

On Monday I sent off an email to a job agency enquiring about two jobs they had advertised in my local jobcentre. I haven't heard anything back from them yet so today I emailed them again asking why I haven't heard from them because if I didn't I know the jobcentre would ask me to next time I visit them.
Job agencies around my area are a waste of time anyway. About eight years ago I registered with a job agency for a local job they had advertised and never heard anything back from them. About three months ago I registered with another job agency and got no answer back from them either. This one I've registered with this week seems to be the same as those previous two.

In my experience it's rare to get replies back. It is, sadly, the nature of the beast. It's why you should make as many enquiries as you can, which I am sure you are doing. When following up enquiries, phone and ask to speak to someone in HR or a manager. E-mails are easy to ignore, it can be much easier to get somewhere when talking to a human being. Be polite and positive and ask when would be a good time for a visit. There may be no jobs right now but if you can persuade someone to let you in for a chat this can help further down the line if vacancies do come up. There is a vast unadvertised job market out there and the only way to get into it is to make enquiries and speak to people. That's how I got the temp job which gave me enough experience to apply for other jobs in that field. We are currently in an employers market. I had to learn the hard way that waiting for employers to contact me wasn't going to get me a job.
Don't just stick with the Job Centre. Find out about other helping agencies in the area. You can do this by googling, by asking direct questions of Job Centre staff and it's worthwhile to see if local libaries or community centres have any information.
It's surprisingly easy to get into a rut or fed up and depressed/angry when out of work for any length of time so the more help you can find the better.

Cheers for the links Ralph - karma winging its way to you shortly. There's nothing on those links currently that I can actually do but I will visit them regularly to see if anything new comes up.

Thinking I would be stuck at home the last few days I'd ordered some new Blu Ray disc, including the Prisoner set, from Amazon. Amazon sent everything else but this - no idea why, it's in stock. I logged in tonight to say where's it got to and noticed it had shed a tenner off it's price in the last week. Cancel, reorder, feel chuffed !
