Demolishor
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen
Demolishor takes on the form of one of the largest ground vehicles ever manufactured on planet Earth. Shame then, that the action figure version is worryingly small compared to the rest of the range of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen toys.
In vehicle mode, Demolishor transforms into a close likeness of a Terek O&K “RH400″ mining excavator… in other words, the ultimate Earth breaker. With a name like Demolishor, it’s an ideal choice.
Demolishor’s colour scheme consists of varying shades of grey and an eye-catching dark magenta. The vehicle mode is covered with moulded detail, from stairs and safety railings to myriad panels and hatches. The vehicle’s cab contains purple translucent windows. The treads, though immobile, are cast in rubber. There are no wheels either, so the vehicle just slides along.
The shovel itself is articulated with three ratcheted hinges. The “Mech Alive” feature consists of a silver internal drum that spins round as the shovel is moved.
Demolishor features an incredibly novel transformation sequence as it changes from heavy duty vehicle to wheeled robot. The way the vehicle’s treads become the giant wheels above and below the torso is exceptionally innovative.
Demolishor is decidedly non-humanoid in robot form. Taking a cue from Beast Machines Vehicon Thrust, this Decepticon is essentially a giant upright motorcycle with shovel arms. Once this monster gains momentum there’s going to be no stopping it. The design, unusual as it is, is severely limited in terms of articulation. In fact, the only pose the robot has is a sort of hands-on-hips “well, really!” camp gesture. Not particularly fitting for a so-called demolishor.
From wheel base to head, Demolishor is about 125 mm tall. Going by the character’s appearance in the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen film and comparing it to Leader class Optimus Prime, to be in scale Demolishor would need to be nearly three-and-a-half times its current size; so, for comparison, about the size of an original Fortress Maximus.
Demolishor is one of those Transformers that splits opinion right down the middle. If you’re looking for a more run of the mill robot, then there’s 25 years’ worth of previous releases to choose from. But if you’re looking something more on the unusual side then Demolishor, surprisingly charming, is recommended.
Verdict: three stars out of five.
