Not for a while though. On checking my accounting this morning I discovered that I have buggered up my April pennies somewhat and a few extra bills due in May. So have the lead over me in the Discovers Quest.
PINWIG DISCOVERS QUEST.

It's already happening though; there's always a steady trickle of nice condition ones of those on eBay, yet eight have sold in the last three days.

Ah shit.
I also see folk are putting Discovers Pirates on Ebay for £10-£15. Twats.

I noticed recently that Who One were selling some of the Target non-fiction books for very cheap prices, so I've knocked off eight of them for barely more than a tenner. Bizarrely, these are all new books that must have been sat in that shop's stock room for decades. So I have now added the five quiz/crossword books, Terry Nation's Dalek Special, K9 and other Mechanical Creatures and... wait for it... the Doctor Who Pattern Book to the Target Library.

I read Harry Sullivan's War.
It was... better than the Earthlink Dilemma.
In fact it's not a bad attempt at putting the bumbling fool into a James Bond role; it's rough around the edges and a bit contrived, but it's enjoyable enough.

I've been doing a bit of a revisit of older DW books. Mostly prompted by the thought that as I'd been reading a lot of Ben Aaronovitch's current work it might be fun to go back and visit some of his earlier work. And as I had The Also People (from the old Virgin books New Adventures line) on the shelf... Still a good read. I'd forgotten how deeply embedded it was in the ongoing meta-story - there is a whole subplot which is somewhat underexplained if you don't already know who a character from previous books is and what they had previously done. On the other hand, watching the Doctor's companions - two of whom are both effectively Street Judges trying to fit in amongst what is an entirely undisguised rip-off of The Culture is almost worth the price of entry to begin with. Aaronovitch's Ships and Drones, sadly, are neither as entertaining or as bitchy as the original Banksie versions though. :-(
One thing led to another and I am currently two-thirds of the way through Kate Orman's Return of the Living Dad. Picked off the shelves mostly because it is such a gloriously silly but entirely accurate title. Despite having some very small continuity links to one of her other books, and being the resolution of Benny Summerfield's character arc that had been in theory going since Love and War this feels much more standalone. Liking the English village setting, and the idea of a group that repatriates stranded aliens before the various British authorities/Conspiracies/jackbooted thugs is so logical in Who fiction that I am amazed it hadn't been done before. Also, it has an Auton fork in it - which is rather endearingly daft.

Reading Cartmel's 'Script Doctor' book. It's very entertaining. Everyone seemed to be permanently pished when making Who in the late 80's.

May need to switch to preordering. The 1967 one was the first time ever one of these books didn't show in my Smiths. They're still rocking a dozen copies of the 2007 one. They've never missed a bookazine from the very beginning of the line until now.

Same, but our WH Smiths is on a slow march to oblivion. Only the Post Office inside keeps it going.

Done a pre-order. Although I almost didn't. £13 for an issue that will inevitably get chewed up in the post due to poor protection doesn't thrill me. The '67 one I had to get from eBay was only a couple of quid more than that. I bet this one sits in Smiths for months now.

I had a flick through Vol 1 in Smiths last week. The cleaned up images are nice enough, but having the originals still I didn't buy it.
