If you look back at these 2 series in the use of Optimus Prime.
He came back in his G1 form - But Hasbro got rid of him in the Movie [even though it was set in 2005] for the powermaster verison {they started work on the Movie back in 1984 with it being the first wave of Transformers made toys & not recolours - so the Powermasters must have been started on in 1987}
So could Hasbro of originally intending on reissueing the original toy - or that the people writing the cartoon where not given any information on the powermaster toy & the guys approving the cartoons didnt seem to think "oh we are releasing a new toy, should we get that in the cartoon"
Also if you look at the dates when the videos where released in the UK.
Headmasters was out either before xmas 1987 or april 1988. I can't remember which. Headmasters must have gone direct to video in the UK about the same time it was show on US TV.
[not sure on air dates - but series 3 should have been late 86 for US {it was only in the UK on video releases from 1988 onwards with the Ghost in the machine & fight or flee which where both repeated lots of times} seeing they had the Movie has summer release while we had it for Dec86. So series 4 must have been start of 87 airing]
While Return of Optimus Prime - which had PM Prime on the cover - was released [advert in Uk #181? Sept 88], so this was with the intent to tie in with the new toy release.

According to the book Prime Targets the US broadcast dates were as follows:
Season 3: The Five Faces of Darkness (5 episodes): Sept 15-19, 1986 The Killing Jar: Sept 29, 1986 Chaos: Sept 30, 1986 Dark Awakening: Oct 1, 1986 (also repeated before The Return of Optimus Prime) Starscream's Ghost: Oct 2, 1986 Thief in the Night: Oct 6, 1986 Forever is a Long Time Coming: Oct 8, 1986 Surprise Party: Oct 9, 1986 Madman's Paradise: Oct 13, 1986 Carnage in C Minor: Oct 14, 1986 Fight or Flee: Oct 15, 1986 Webworld: Oct 20, 1986 Ghost in the Machine: Oct 21, 1986 The Dweller in the depths: Oct 30, 1986 Nightmare Planet: Oct 31, 1986 The Ultimate Weapon: Nov 10, 1986 The Quintesson Journal: Nov 11, 1986 The Big Broadcast of 2006: Nov 12, 1986 Only Human: Nov 13, 1986 Grimlock's New Brain: Nov 14, 1986 Money is Everything: Nov 17, 1986 Call of the Primitives: Nov 18, 1986 The Burden Hardest to Bear: Nov 19, 1986 The Face of the Nijika: Nov 20, 1986 The Return of Optimus Prime (2 episodes): Dec 2-3, 1986*
* The book claims the date for these episodes are Mar 2-3, 1986 but that has to be a print mistake as this doesn't make any sense.
Season 4: The Rebirth (3 episodes): Nov 9-11, 1987
I hope that has cleared a few things up!

Anyone flicking over the back pages of UK comics - which issue was it that the Headmasters video was advertised? Sure it was before March 1988 when it was released in the UK. The Movie vhs was released during 88? was 88 when i first watched it.

An unrelated thought, but as you mentioned The Return of Optimus Prime, I had a thought. In that episode the women who rescues Prime's body, Jessica something or other, is paralised and the Autobots built some device to let her walk again yet didn't do they same thing for wheel chair bound Chip Chase?
Maybe he just didn't have the courage to try and stand on his own two feet.

Yes that's the advert - i'm sure it was printed in #130 - 170 [think about 153?] Might have been #141 - but we had the toys ads has a poster around this time too.
Anyone having a quick read of robocapers for 40 issues wanted to check which issue.

Something like that should be simple for someone like Wheeljack and Ratchet to construct. I was just trying to make a point that has bugged me for years. Though I watched the last disc of season 3 and 4 last night, and my real grip in it is with the extras. Not so much the extras themselves, but the coverage of AA 2004. Five years after first seeing it I still get frustrated when the guy presenting the event calls introduces himself as Overlord. That's not your name, use your real name. You just embarrassed yourself. It's cringe worthy stuff. Saying that I bet that guy either posts here or is a friend to someone on here. Oh well grip over.

Something like that should have been created for Chip Chase considering that Wheeljack could create the Dinobots and in the Marvel comics Circuit Breaker could create her own suit which allowed her to walk. But then there is the point of whether Chip wanted to part part of such an invention.

I'll have to re watch series 2. Cant remember the last time we see Chip. I know that he wasn't in many of the ones selected for UK VHS release back in the 80's. Think he was only in about 3 videos [Desertion Dinobots, Dino island, heavy metal wars]

I believe that Megatron's Master Plan was the last appearance by our wheel chair bound friend. He seemed to become obsolete once Perceptor was introduced into the series.
I was bored last night which was why I mentioned it, but I suppose another way to look at the walking device would be if Wheeljack did build it, it would have most likely blown up and killed chip.
I don't believe that I have sat and watched all 98 episodes in a little over a week. It helped pass the time.

It would have been perfectly fine if his introduction was along the lines of "Hello, my name is Omar (what ever his surname was). Some of you may know me as Overlord on (website he mentioned)."
I think the Metrodome staffers were also embarrassed so had to add the aka Omar (his surname) on to the on screen graphic.
Moments like this don't help with the stereotype of sci-fi type fans.

That is EXACTLY the same reaction I have in that situation.
Although depending on my mood I may offer the alternate response of: "My name is Chris, but you may call me "That guy who said I was a complete tool".

I recall negative comments about it at the time. Perhaps it was on the old forum and hasn't been preserved for posterity (thank goodness!) TFWiki claims it was provided with the series 2 part 2 box, though I can't recall owning this comic. I'll have to find the discs in the loft.

Yeah, I think it was split across two boxsets. I know I've got one part of it around here.
