2009 was the last year of the first decade of the 21st century (try saying that fast!) and so, I thought about starting this up. What did you think of 2009? What did you enjoy most about the year and what did you dislike most about the year?
For me, there were two things I enjoyed most in the year. Near the beginning of the year I was reunited with an old classmate from high school whom I hadn't seen for seventeen years by means of him inviting me to a music gig where he was the lead singer of the band. This lead to me going along to almost all of his bands gigs since then. My other enjoyable memory of the year would undoubtably have to be AA2009. It was only the second AA I had been to but it was certainly the best.
As for my disliked moments of 2009 I have only one - that of losing my job. I won't go anymore into that because I mentioned it enough times at the time of it happening.

2009 was the last year of the first decade of the 21st century Actually, it wasn't. The first century was years 1 to 100, the 20th century was years 1901 to 2000, and the 21st century is years 2001 to 2100. The first decade of the 21st century ends at the end of 2010. (There is no year 0 in our dating system, so if a century lasts a hundred years it has to be this way.) It annoyed me greatly as a mathematician when people insisted on celebrating the new millennium at the start of the year 2000, even though there had only been 1999 complete years by that point since the transition from BC/BCE to AD/CE. Boring nitpick over! Gosh, it's a tough question that you've asked, and I've wasted enough time on delaying tactics. I haven't changed jobs this year, or moved house, and no-one close to me has died or got much iller than they were at the start of the year. I suppose the highlights would have to include becoming a godfather to my cousin's baby daughter, and the fact that my sister and her boyfriend have moved in together. I've had some satisfying projects completed at work and taken on a bit more responsibility, which is cool. And I really enjoyed getting into my gardening in the spring. On the downside, Mum's still in a bad way with Parkinson's, but that's not going to change, and Dad's being very patient looking after her. I suppose when I had to go back to Bristol in a hurry in November to help them out because Dad had twisted his back was probably the low point. But he's better now, and Christmas went well. So I can't complain about 2009 on balance. Martin

2009 for me meant lotsa studying, with eventual success. Watching Piglet grow up some more, and turn into a little girl (bossy little swine-child!). And buying our fab new house. On the down side, more of my fittness has been lost and I have developed a fungal infection under my right big toe nail. Overall though, a good year. I've alot to be thankfull for.

2009 was a wasted year if I'm honest.
I worked for less than 3 months did non of the studying I had hoped to do. Was ill or recovering from one thing or another for much of the year and let slip all my good work losing weight.
Having said all that I enjoyed the year and I had the chance to be all creative in a few different media.

It was a bit of a treading water year if I'm honest. I was more financially stable in a firm job than I've ever been in my life, but I feel like I was not getting anywhere. For 2010 I have decided to try to push myself and take more risks

2009 was one of my poorest years due to spending the first half of it wondering if I'd still have a job the next week as the steel and coal industry continued to spiral ever downward. Our company started with 9 people and lost three along the way thanks to this. My credit debt continued to grow, and I still have no savings or retirement account.
On the positive side - I kept my job and the steel/coal industry has improved to the point that I am no longer constantly stressed over job security. I also finally got my green card and used it for my first ever trip to Brazil to a science conference.
2010 - I must change my financial habits and also my eating and exercise habits. Time to grow some willpower.
