How did you find the bit where he strangles another actor?

He strangles a guy. The guy gets out of impending death by claiming he has cancer. Patrick is instantly full of remorse for strangling someone with cancer.
They are working in the same play. The next day, Patrick sees him outside. The other actor now says he doesn't have cancer after all. Rather than feeling guilt about his attempted throttling, Patrick just gets angry that the guy lied about having cancer. It does not occur to him this was a very clever way for the chap to avoid death.
It's the lack of self-awareness (even now, many years later) that makes it a Classic Mad Actor Anecdote. Just imagine someone admitting the same in any other job!!!

I especially liked the bit when instead of keeping or finding a new home for a dog that lit up the stage as his companion he... dropped it back at the pound the instant he didn't need it as part of his show. What a guy.

And let's not forget how Sunny, his wife, has him doing drugs now.
Where were his best friends Jonathan and Brent then??
Oh and the affairs. The many affairs that he just couldn't help himself over. Including the one that lasted years and he blows off as just a short term thing in half a page.

Best novel I have read in a while was THE FUTURE by Naomi Alderman. Thing is though.that to say why would rather give it away, but it's clever!
A good impulse library loan.
