Hey everyone. I apologise if this is not worthy of its own thread. I was just plodding about on the wii channels last night while bored, and actually bothered to read the connection ambassador promotion to find out what it was about. It appears to be that if you help someone to connect their Wii to the internet, you each get 500 free Wii points. I was wondering if anyone here has first hand experience of this, or maybe we could all help each other get some free points. www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2009/nintendo_launches_connection_ambassador_promotion_14834.html

My Wii is already connected to the net. I think it works in much the same way as these deals with catalogue companies that promise to give you a £25 M&S voucher if you recommend a friend to them.

I just thought it would be worth a shot as I like the idea of downloading some of the retro games onto my Wii, but I find the prices for them very over priced. This is especially when I have most of the retro games I want already on my pc to play on a rom emulator.
As always the catch is you need to register the person who "helped" you within 30 days of first accessing the Wii shopping channel.
I suppose it is handy if you want free points and know people who have a Wii. I don't know anyone else who has one.

It's a good idea and I suppose some of us could possibly disconnect out Wii net connection and then reconnect it using this ambassador program. I think that could fool them into thinking we are new users of the net when really we aren't but this could only be done once per person considering that we have to submit our connection numbers (or whatever they're called).

I tried to do this with a friend who got a Wii for Christmas and by the time we went through all the rigmarole the 30 days had expired. First you need to exchange friend code in the usual manner, then you must wait until you a linked properly (i.e. they are ungrayed in your address book), then the person who is helping must go to the Wii shop and add your code again (you can't pick from your address book, which meant we had to exchange codes in the real world again as my friend had thrown my code away), then the helper must go to the shop and enter the code again.
You must do it in that exact sequence. The helper cannot add the others code to the shop before the helpee does otherwise you get an error. Like I said, the time taken to sort out the order to do things in took longer than the 30 days. All in all it's a nice idea but as usual for Nintendo's online stuff, it's poorly implemented.
