Due to a complete shortage of work again at my new workplace I've been off work again today and also I'll be off tomorrow and also until further notice. The past three weeks I've only worked a total of five days and this week will see me working no more than three assuming I am called into the place at all this week.

Work is wearing me down again, and I have just had to defer a week of leave in March to fit more work that I just got given (I don't actually mind that, I'm only taking the leave because I HAVE to by the end of March, this way I get to carry it over /and/ guilt-trip my boss, ho ho)

Sounds like I got the same bug you did Phil. I couldn't even keep sips of water down on Sunday, and was vomiting at least once an hour whether there was anything to bring up at all. The car journey back from Oldham was fun! It mustn't be a coincidence that bile rhymes with vile...
Haven't vommed since yesterday morning, but felt like I could all day. However the problem moved to the other end, but thankfully haven't had too much of that, probably because there's nothing to digest. I've only had 2 slices of toast to eat since Sunday morning. Feeling quite weak, but I still don't have any appetite.
On the plus side I've lost 4 pounds in two days! If I lose one more pound I'll be the lightest I've been since uni. Go go extreme weightloss!

I just chanced a bowl of cereal, and from the sounds coming from my gut, I've started a small war. Come on Special K, defeat the Evil Vom Virus!

Not having a productive week at work, things not working out as planned. Bit of a come-down after a good week last week. Still, got Friday off, yay.

Work is never as good as you want it to be - I worked that out from my previous employment. I saw that place go from workable to downright unworkable within a few short years.

The dole office are screwing me around again. Last week they stuck a sticker on my signing on booklet notifying me of a new time in which I have to sign on. They never told me they had done this and, as a result, I never checked. I went up their this morning for my usual signing on time and was turned away - pointing out the sticker on the front of my signing on booklet. So I have had a wasted journey up there this morning and have got to go back up there this afternoon for my new signing on time. Bastards!

Well after the emotional disaster zone I turned into late last week, things have looked up surprisingly well. I had a good weekend and perhaps most importantly, I had a good talk with my retired coworker who worked this job for almost 12 years, ten of them by herself. When I asked her whether she ever felt condescended to via Boss email, she replied "Oh, only about 9 out of 10 times". Nice to know I'm not hallucinating things.
I've decided I need to be a lot less emotionally attached to this job and the company. I also need to work on looking for something else. This isn't a career, it's a job, and it's a technician's job at that. You don't need to be a scientist to do it, don't need degrees, a monkey could be trained to do it. And I'm tired of being that monkey.
Time to polish up the resume, get a LinkedIn profile and start putting out some serious feelers for research/fellowship/career opportunities. I let a perfectly good Research Fellowship walk by me early last year out of loyalty to the company. I won't do something so foolish again.

I've had no further contact from the job agency and so it looks like I'll be off work all this week. I have however filled in an online application form for Aldi stores because they have a shop very close to my old workplace and they also pay £8 an hour rising to £9 an hour after a while for a humble shop assistant. Hopefully, something permanent will turn up from that.

Good luck with that, Zudo.
Hello Sportsfans!!!
Every good in the world of Shockprowl. 'Cept, despite having half the toys in the world, what has Piglet found most interesting to play with today? A furry shoe insert. Thankfully not a used one. It's one Mrs Shockprowl cut a small piece out of to put in a pair of her high-heals. Piglet said she like the fact one side was soft and furry, and the other was smooth. Glad I spent 40 odd squid on that Leap-pad child's learning computer thingy. She's currently eating sausage like there's no tommorow!
Finaly saw G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Wasn't too bad actually. Good fights. Thought they couldn't fitted in bags more 'Joes', instead of just having random chaps and chapesses all dressed the same. Not sure I liked Cobra Commanders origin. But I thought the way Destro came about was interesting, more like the old Battle Action Force comics in some ways. "Call me Commander!".

After Internet Explorer kindly invited me (for legal reasons) to consider using another Browser, this generally lazy and apathetic consumer is giving Firefox a try, since people say it's more secure/stable.
Not noticing any differences so far. Time will tell!
Edit: Is it my imagination? It seems to be loading pages faster than IE...

Martin I haven't had that ballot screen at home - but then as I was already running three web browsers that aren't IE I don't feel too hard done by :-). I've had it at work but as we are specifically not allowed to make any changes to the software configuration I remain lumbered with IE. It probably isn't your imagination Martin, I have tended to find that the HTML rendering engine in Firefox does tend to render a bit quicker than the one in IE. (I'm mostly using Opera at the moment myself, due to an argument between my old firewall and Firefox. May switch back come the next revision of Firefox though) Karl

Martin, with the right settings, you won't get Hub adverts anymore, which will surely come across as a big change!

My choice of Internet Browser is Safari and I've used it for almost a year now. I have heard things on the net that Google Chrome is a good browser but when I downloaded it I found that it was a much slower browser than Safari so I quickly ditched it. It's actually amusing me at the moment that Microsoft are putting on TV several ads about how good Internet Explorer is but they won't sway me away from my current browser.

I too gave Chrome a try and found it unbearably slow. I've been using Opera for (I now realise) over 10 years and never had any problems. Well OK sometimes I get a "unsupported browser" message on sites (typically if unlocking something with a CD) but that's why I keep Internet Explorer on my machine too - just for those odd occasions.
Now I know some sexy Hub folk use Firefox too, but I find so many Firefox users are such obnoxious pricks that it's really put me off ever giving it a proper go.
In other news, I've had a bit of a hectic start to the year but things are calming down. Actually it now feels like new year. Shame it's March.

Martin: goto AddIns and download AdBlock plus. It's great OK, done. The Add-ons page lists "RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin" and tells me it is incompatible with Firefox. That's a shame, 'cos it works in IE and lets me download any YouTube or similar video to my PC at the click of a mouse. Never mind, I don't use it often and can always boot up IE when I want it. I decided to go for broke last night and go to a bingo hall to try and win a bit of money back. The night was appalling for me and I rarely got anywhere close to winning but one punter there unwittingly threw away a £2,000 jackpot. There is one ticket that you buy at the beginning of the night where if you call the full house on a specific randomly generated number you win the house prize plus the jackpot which currently stands at over £2,000 - but only if you pay £1 at the beginning of the night to have that ticket 'stamped'. She didn't have her ticket stamped and called the full house on the jackpot number. The result: instead of walking away with over two grand she only walked away with the £60 full house prize. If that had ever happened to me I would never be able to forgive myself and it would haunt me for the rest of my life.

Elements of what happened at The Chase showing are emergin, but would anyone like to tell the whole story ? Others may care to share more in due course, and if you really wish to know then I can PM you or whatever. But I think I have said all I wish to burden the Hub at large with. Back to the plastic mecha and nonsense and whatnot I say. Karl
