OK - never saw any Shogun Warriors, or seen much of the new shows around those lovely shiny chogokin toys but saw this on AICN and it is really giving me joygasms for some reason www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS6E-Nu3xsg I think its because I have no emotion vested in any of the characters like I do with TF - it just looks so great. OK, at mo could be just a very nice FMV for a game, but if we have a whole film like this - bring it on. Plus AICN indicates they are doing this by using FULLSCALE!!! bots for scanning - taking with pinch of salt this close to April Fools day on that one but fair play if they do....thoughts?

I'm not really that familiar with Gaiking myself - I tend to stay more on the "Real Robot" side of the genre than the "Super Robot" side.
I'd heard about this apparent trailer floating around earlier in the week but hadn't actually seen it as yet.
As teaser trailers go it is fair enough (tells no-one anything and explains nothing about the project) but I'd be inclined to treat it with a pinch of salt at this stage. (Both in terms of whether it really happens, and whether it would have any significant exposure outside of Gaiking's native land.)
As to using full-scale designs for scanning and replication..... firstly AICN is not exactly a reliable source of that kind of information. Secondly, comparing Gaikings apparent height to the 1:1 scale RX-78 Gundam statue...... I think the idea that a movie project has built one at 1:1 just to do image-mapping rather unlikely in terms of logistical feasibility.

If this ever comes out I will explode. One of the first VHS tapes our family had was a random 2 episode set of badly dubbed Gaiking that just about shattered my six year old mind with its awesomenoscity. As is traditional for 70s super robots the arms & head and legs are two separate ships that launch from an enormous flying dragon-shaped aircraft carrier that can convert to a mile-wide circular saw blade (told you) whose head detaches to form Gaiking's torso. There's also a pair of drill-missiles that Gaiking can wear as replacement forearms if the team has launched the originals to remotely grapple an enemy. It's gloriously demented. This project has been bopping around for a few years now and the Comicsalliance article is really jusr written because Toei have joined up with Valhalla entertainment to distribute the eventual film worldwide. Hopefully this means progress is being made on it. -Nick
