Wow. The gifts I used to get in my cereal seem boring by comparison. And certainly a lot less meaty to the taste!

Got another day off work tomorrow so I would have only worked two days this week - the first time this has happened since the first week I started there. I thought things were picking up last week when I did four days but that theory has gone down the drain now.

Jonathan's broken our DVD player
Turns out that he'd somehow forced a DVD out the back of the tray into the innards of the machine. The DVD is a phillips player but instead of (the expected) phillips screw heads it has odd 6 pointed ones (not allan key) so I can't get the cover off to fix it.
So I've got the Blu Ray player out and wired it up. Unfortunately it doesn't have a SCART socket and the TV hasn't an HDMI socket so the BD Player can't tell the TV it's there and to turn over automatically.

The particular screwdriver you are looking for to open those kinds of things can be found on Ebay. Games consoles use the same kind of screws and I saw a listing once on Ebay from somebody who sells those kind of screwdrivers. The only problem with unscrewing those things though is that you can easily void the warranty thats why I stay well clear from such tasks.

I've just seen the first "short shorts and vest top combo worn by a lady" of the year, I guess some people think summer has arrived.

It's a nice sunny day today and I've recently been down to the bookies for the annual pilgrimage of putting a bet on a few horses that are going to fall at the first fence in todays Grand National.

I just got back from the Moonbase meet. It was pretty awesome, I got to put names to faces and offload a lot of stuff that needed offloading! If only there was more time in pubs!

Hopefully it will be another good day today like it was yesterday. The only thing I didn't like about yesterday was that one of the horse I put on in the Grand National finished in fifth after flirting with second and third place for much of the race.

Well done Andy! That's a cracking time and no mean feat considering how bloody warm it's been the past couple of days.
I was about to type that we're busy packing and getting ready for our trip to Denmark tomorrow, but the truth is the packing was over in half an hour and now we're just trying to make sure my mum stays calm from here on in. I have to admit I'm a wee bit nervous considering the mental cost of basic food and drink over there but I'm sure we'll be okay. We'll have English notes we can get changed if we run out of Kroner and I'm fairly sure my bank card will work.
Ralph has been texting steadily from Brum. He is now on his way home and has just passed Leeds.

Well done on the run, Andy!
Hello Sportsfans! Been on a rest day today, just finished two days, and back for two more days tmw. Cut my grass for the first time today! I felt so suburban!

I am just back in the door from the epic 3-day jaunt to Brum. Moonbase 2 meet was fun and saw some bits of Brum that were new to me. Too knackered to catch up on Doctor Who until tomorrow.
Wish I'd taken tomorrow off work. I'm going to be useless!

Congratulations on a decent time on the run Andy - considering that the weather is not entirely conducive to exertion.
I've had a more outdoorsy couple of days than I intended. I spent Saturday in Stirling, revisiting Stirling Castle. Initially I was a bit wary of the £9 entrance fee which felt a little bit steep. However, considering that not only have they done massive renovation works in the years since I was there last (the Great Hall, the largest of the period in Scotland is truly stunning now) but that they also now do hourly guided tours (which take about 60 minutes) it is far better value for money than it used to be when it was cheaper. All told I spent about three hours in the castle.
Then I took a wander around the graveyard next door - it is an interesting example of a graveyard that was actually designed rather than accumulating. It turns out that it is laid out very carefully as much with an eye to being instructional to the living as a place for storing the dead, even turning a large rock outcrop that would have been impossible to remove into a Pilgrim's Progress reference.
By the time I was done with that and an accidental encounter with a vintage and modern toy-shop that did not exist when I lived there it was about time to head home to see Doctor Who.
This morning I took a walk out into the countryside and saw my first ducklings of the year - Small mounds of fluffy material floating on the water like coloured cotton balls. Also watched a Magpie have a bit of a contretemps with a Buzzard, and heard my first woodpecker of the spring.
This afternoon was spent sawing through a padlock on my shed to which I had lost the keys so I could measure my bicycle's wheel diameter to buy a new inner tube for the back wheel. (It would have to be the Back one, where I will need to detach the gearing and everything as well).
I also attempted to make a carrot cake, but that has been less than successful. It has come out much stodgier than I would like. Ah well - with some custard or heated up in the Microwave it will make nice puddings anyway.

Hopefully you had a good time down in Brum though. Karl

I was also like it when coming back from AA last year. I didn't get through the door of my house until about 10.30pm and I had to a 6am start at work the following day. Needless to say I got very little sleep (although the sleep was of an excellent quality) and couldn't concentrate fully on my job.
If I'm going to AA this year I'll be booking the Friday and the Monday off work - a feat that will be far easier at my new workplace than at my old one.

I would have taken Monday off, but when one is in probation period at work and needs to meet targets to keep job, one takes off as little time as possible.

Well done on the run, Andy!
My weekend was spent mowing the lawn, pressure-washing the patio, re-treating the fences, clearing out the flowerbeds, and generally tidying up the garden. It's tiring but satisfying work. Today I feel like my lower back has had a car parked on it all night. And, naturally, the top of my head is like a beetroot.

On Friday I clocked out of work for the last time.
Not as big a deal as it sounds. They've just abolished the clocking-in-and-out system to save money. After eight years working at the place, we're now being treated like grown-ups and trusted to keep track of our flexi-hours for ourselves!
Hope no-one takes advantage and brings us to shame.

At my former workplace we had an electronic swipe card clocking out system but at my new workplace it just one of those 'sign on this piece of paper' things which I think means that the management have more trust in their workers.

We have a clocking in and out system, and then have to account our weekly time against costs centres for analysis at the end of each financial year.
Sadly we also have a new clocking in and out machine. I say sadly because I miss the on that recently gave up the ghost - it made a nice chunky Kerrr-Chack noise that I regret the passing of.

We have a clocking in and out system, and then have to account our weekly time against costs centres for analysis at the end of each financial year. People who work for the government agency that employs me have to do that. People who are employed by the government department that I am seconded to also have to do that. But me, only being employed by (but not working for) the agency and working for (but not employed by) the department... I don't have to do it. HUZZAH! Martin
