I had planned to spend the bank holiday outside today by hitting the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens and/or Butterly World but the weather is foul ffs. They shall have to wait until another day.
Complained to the hotel in Brum that's been mucking me about and got a room upgrade out of it. Result. That's next weekend all sorted now.

I spent much of last night around my sisters house moving a wardrobe of hers from my father's house in Ibstock to her house across the Derbyshire border in Moira. It only took me and her boyfriend about half an hour to put the flat pack wardrobe back together but after we had done so we had a few cans of lager and then nipped to a pizza shop in nearby Ashby for a pizza each (what else!) and then spent about the next hour and a bit back at her house eating the pizzas and watching the original (and still classic) version of The Italian Job.

If you're talking about The Italian Job then I don't think I have. I've only seen the film on TV and don't have it on DVD which is presumably where that deleted scene can be found these days.

Today was a lovely day - warm and not insanely windy like it was all weekend. I got out of work early and spent 2 1/2 hours farting around in the front yard mowing, sweeping, digging, seeding and planting bulbs. I'm going to be very sore tomorrow.

Mini lurgy: not enough to be properly sick, but enough to be off my game and generally useless at work. May it pass swiftly.
I recently wrote to the NHS Blood Donation people to update my address and ask where the donation place in Edinburgh is. They have responded by placing me on the Organ Donation Register. I have given permission to have any of my organs used, apparently. Though I've been on this register since April 1996 (I still have the old card in my wallet to this day) I am still rather cross that it was re-done without my consent. Still, at least I have a shiny new bit of blue cardboard to replace the tatty old green bit of paper.
I am having MINI KIEVS for dinner. I rarely do this as they tend to explode in the oven but I took a sudden craving. I AM OUT OF CONTROL.

A week that begins on a Tuesday is always off to a good start in my book.
And when it also heralds the arrival of my Tex Avery DVD box set from Amazon France, it scores again in the plus column.
I can't stop laughing. Had to pause the DVD and take a break here in order to regain my equilibrium. Easily as good as the very best Warner Bros stuff (of which Tex was of course a part), and I'm not just talking about Droopy. I mean, check this out:

The only problem with a week that starts on a Tuesday is that I still have five days work to do, but only four days in which to do it.....
That said, I had a very good weekend. Spent it down at my mother's. We took a trip to York, where I had a good wander around the railway museum in the morning, and followed that up with another museum in the afternoon and a bit of a wander along the river (the geese of York do not like me particularly much as they have discovered that I do not function as a free food dispenser, and so they treat me with a lofty disdain). On Sunday morning we went down to the RSPB Nature Reserve at Salthome where we were observing more geese - Canada Geese this time - and a sizeable flock of Common Terns which are nesting on an island on one of the lakes there. It was a very civilised way to spend a Sunday morning. Then I trundled back up by train to Falkirk on the Monday morning.
Surprisingly few people travelling in any direction over the Holiday weekend. Not only the trains but the roads seemed to be very quiet. Perhaps the weather had put folk off.

Ralph, I almost took a swig of Irn Bru before reading your last post. I'm glad I paused because that was properly funny. Your exploding mini kievs have made my morning. Well done sir, and I hope they were still edible.
I went up to the credit union this morning to get some Kroner for the family trip to Legoland next week. We can pick it up on Friday. The current exchange rate is Kr8.47 to the pound, and they offered 8.245. I reckon that's pretty damn good. Their dollar and Euro rates are better than the post office by about 5% so I took that as a sign they were the way to go.
So... anybody want anything from Denmark?

Off for a walk with Piglet now. There's a local reservoir near us that has a kind of small beachy bit. She likes to dig. Dig dig dig! Dig for gold! Dig for oil! Dig for the love of digging!!!

Minor malaise has turned to proper Man-Cold. Thankfully, I had two hours TOIL owing so could vanish early at work. Urgh. Hope this passes before long train journey on Friday, damn it.

When I was on my bank holiday adventures on Friday, both North Berwick and the Flight Museum were dead. I thought they would be mobbed, especially as the schools were off. Standing in an airfield empty of people was a strange experience.

THAT SONG wasn't on the radio at work today but I did suffer another bit of bad luck there when one of the drinks machines decided to accept money but not credit it as being inserted. I lost £1.20 to that machine today before coming home and getting a text message from the job agency saying I've got tomorrow off work due to lack of work.

Er, what I meant to say in that last post was that it is Mrs Shockprowl who is driven to violence against C4 because Desperate Housewives isn't on tonight, and that she makes me watch it every week.
