I don't usually post stuff like this, but these really deserve a thread. Lately I've been watching the amazing film reviews by youtube user Redlettermedia. He hasn't done many: namely the first two Star Wars prequels, Avatar and the four TNG Star Trek movies. But they are all fantastic. Probably some of the best, most insightful, funniest and genuinely entertaining reviews I've ever seen. User page: www.youtube.com/user/RedLetterMediaKick off with the Phantom Menace Review. It is great, and a whopping 70 minutes long! (The Attack of the Clones one is 90!). But you don't notice the length, it is done so well. Part 1

I don't think I'll bother watching them. I don't doubt how good they are but I could never watch an online review of a film that goes on for almost as long as the film itself.

Urgh - heard the first few minutes of a couple of the reviews and couldn't be bothered to go on. Why does a guy give so much of his time to something he doesn't like? Life's too short - talk about something you like!
I'm reacting negatively to negative stuff at the moment, mind you - particularly political satire, which is pretty cheap and un-funny at a time when people should be paying attention and taking a serious interest in things.

I'm guessing its because he's a massive fan of the original trilogy and it just irks him to see another trilogy of films that is set before the original trilogy that is so badly written. I felt the same way when I first watched the prequels. I thought that the first film was boring and was going nowhere fast while the second one was nothing but a full blown romance film set in space. I liked the third film but admittedly it still wasn't a patch on the originals.

I agree, but if I feel that way about something it only takes a minute of typing to say so, and then you can put it to one side and go and spend time on something more worthwhile. Unless you enjoy spending hours making videos about things you don't like... in which case they give you pleasure after all, by giving you material for your video-making hobby... in which case they were worthwhile films after all... and if you enjoy watching his reviews of the prequels, then the prequels are giving you pleasure too... argh! Paradox! *mind explodes* Martin

The videos are satire.

Ironically, I thought the Attack of the Clones review was a poor follow-up to the fantastic TPM review. The review provides little insight into the film beyond the obvious (the relationship between Padme and Anakin is forced. There are lots of lightsabers. OMG!) and the dark elements (women tied up in the basement) feel like a poor retread of his early works.

Great stuff.
But a little harsh on Qui Gon I thought. I could give a reasonable desciption of the character and, though vague I would say he is the protagonist. Otherwise the point is well made with Amadela.

What IF, instead of dying, Lucas replaced the character of Dooku with Qui-Gon How amazing would that have been!
