I've not been able to turn around the big worry in life and today may have been the point of no return. Expect to see me back in the dole queue in July unless a miracle happens. I'm doing everything asked of me, I just don't know what more I can do.
In other news, still waiting for my Grandfather to die, which should be within the next few weeks apparently. Complicated family backstory there.

Things may get you down but if you spend all your time letting them get you down nothing will take a turn for the better. After I lost my job last year I spent six months on the dole but I never let these situations get me down. Although I still occasionally moan about not working enough days in the week I don't let anything like this get the better of me. Always look up and never down.
Yer, I know that sounds a little poetic (sort of) but its perfectly true.

Don't let it get you down Ralph, we've all been there. The important thing is that you have friends, and keep motivated

Keep your chin up re. your job Ralph. Its not over until its over - if ever. You may be surprised by yourself. I'm just packing to come home from Stockholm once a conference I have been at for the last week finishes up tomorrow lunchtime. Has been very interesting but maybe a wee too long and I am looking forward to my own bed and feeding my lonely spider tomorrow evening. In other news I have been accepted onto a PhD course to start in September/October time = more spiders. In theory.

Ralph, my fingers remain crossed for you. Keep plugging away and give it your best shot. In the end all any of us can do is try our best.
Gavin - congratulations on the PhD course. Although I'm surprised to hear that you are intending to use theoretical spiders. Surely actual spiders would give more concrete results.......

I turned up for work today to discover why I hadn't been called in to work for the rest of the week. It turned out that they had been a water leak within the warehouse and a large number of boxes had become water damaged as a result. Until the problem had been fixed no new work could be sent in and the water damaged stock had to be sorted out from the okay stock and presumably thrown away.
It was also the birthday of one of Polish girls in my department today and we were surprised when, at about 2.30 in the afternoon the security guard sang happy birthday to her down the tannoy system!

With one hand, work is holding up a delicious carrot. On the other hand, they are definately hitting me with a big stick

Surely actual spiders would give more concrete results....... Karl After seeing some of the posters at the conference I've just been at, you'd be staggered by what people term an 'actual' 'result'.... Gavin ----------

I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get up to work tomorrow. On Friday morning I discovered that my bicycle had a puncture so I had to go into work by means of a bus ride covering half the distance and then walking another two or so miles to the workplace. This wasn't something I enjoyed and I'd prefer it if I never did it again. Alas, though it looks like I'll have to. On Saturday I brought a new inner tube for the bike and also a new tyre because the old one looked like it was about worn out and this afternoon I duly fitted the new tyre and inner tube to the wheel. Then came the bit where it all went pear-shaped. I couldn't seem to put the wheel back on the bike properly so my brother said that he knew of an easy way to put the wheel back on. He unscrewed the axle from out of the wheel and .... all of the ball bearings from inside fell out - some of them falling down gaps in the paving stones on my back yard. He picked up the remaining ball bearings, put them back in the bike, put the wheel on and tried the bike. The back wheel is now difficult to turn.
What looked like a simple job of changing the tyre which cost me a mere £27 for tyre and inner tube will now cost me a further £50 to have the bike repaired. The reason why it will cost that much is because there are other minor problems with the bike that don't bother me and I know that Halfords and their team of inexperienced monkeys will give the bike a full makeover which I don't want and charge me for it.
