My housemates continue to leave the tv on 16:9 despite the fact the tv presentation is in 4:3. This makes the actors look squished. Also, my OCD goes frickin' mental.
Their argument is that they don't notice the fact that the program looks wrong and that they don't like the black bars down the side.
This I find retarded, especially as they're all intelligent educated people.
To combat this I am going to print out photos of the usual tv programs (comedy central mainly, Scrubs, 2-1/2 Men) and put them by the tv so they can see that the actors look wrong.

Neither do you cut the top & bottom of 4:3 programs to make them fit the screen (BBC !)

Watching programmes in the wrong aspect ratio drives me fucking nuts.

One of the TV's in our house automatically sets the aspect ratio depending on what channel we put it on. Usually the TV sets itself on 4.3 (I think) with the black bars down the side and when that happens we change the size to what the TV calls 'full screen' which as you've probably already guessed, fills out the entire screen with the picture. None of our other TV's have this 'problem' they automatically fill out the screen with the picture without it looking stretched but this TV does. I'm not a fan of widescreen or 4.3 or letterbox or whatever name they've come up with at the moment and just want a full picture on the TV screen.
