Hi all: I've had a hard-to-find Megatron blueprint poster for a couple of years. (It seems to be so hard to find that I haven't been able to track down an image of it to show you what I mean. It's the Megatron version of this one:) The problem is that it's 24" by 36", a size for which it proved problematic to find a frame. After several months' unsuccessful searching, my patience wore out and I brought a poster frame which is noticeably oversized. (It's one of those that is a simple transparent, plastic sheet on a cork-style backing. There is no rim to it.) So, my now-framed poster has quite the border around the outside which is rather unattractive, since it's the brown backing to the frame poking through. My question would be how to go about covering it up. I'm not certain that anyone here would actually know how to go about it, but I at least don't have to worry about getting any abuse about trying to frame a three-foot-tall Megatron poster here, like I would do if I were to ask elsewhere I presume it would need some card or something, but I've not seen any sheets that are big enough anywhere. I did have the idea of building a wooden "frame" shell to go around it, but I'm not a craftsman at all, so would need to go creeping to my brother-in-law. I wondered whether you fine fellows might not have had a similar problem, and how you'd recommend I go about resolving it, since it's a shame to have such a beautiful poster in so shabby a surrounding. For reference's sake, this is what it looks like:

You could do with a mount which, if you can get one the right size should cover the gap around the edge.
If you have an art supplies shop near you then that might be a good place to look for one. Some larger, proper, tationers might also be able to supply such a thing.

Thanks karl. Funnily enough, there is a frame specialist that we'd spotted not far away, but the cost of the things that they have in the window told me that there was no point even countenancing going in. I think the solution may be to ask my brother-in-law to knock something up. He's no fan of TF, but there's a Millennium Falcon in my parents' attic, and I know that he was very keen to see it, so I may dangle that as a carrot

If you can't find a piece of card the size of the frame, buy a poster of anything that's larger than the frame, turn it face down, trim it to the right size and use it as a backing sheet. Then you have a shiny white border at least.

I don't have an answer for you, but that's one damn fine poster! Absolutely, I adore it. I had to pay over the odds to get it, and it needed to come across the Atlantic, but it's such a magnificent piece of work that I couldn't help but buy it. If you can't find a piece of card the size of the frame, buy a poster of anything that's larger than the frame, turn it face down, trim it to the right size and use it as a backing sheet. Then you have a shiny white border at least. Martin, you're a genius. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best; you just need to be smart enough to look there! Thanks!

^^ That's where I got the one I'm using The unfortunate thing is that this particular poster is of such dimensions that conventional larger frames aren't quite big enough to hold it. Thanks anyway

If you liked that poster, there's a seller on eBay who's selling one of those (plus the Optimus version and a few more). I wasn't sure of the sizes (since he's listed under "mini posters" for some of them), but he wrote back to confirm that all of them are 2' by 3'. His page is here.

If I'd seen this thread sooner, I could have directed you to the two main UK poster suppliers, GB Eye and Pyramid International, both of which make frames for this size (Maxi). I don't stock the frames myself, because they're so large to post, but plenty of bricks of mortar shops that sell their posters also stock the frames or would be able to order them. Try contacting the manufacturers directly to find a local stockist. I once had a similar problem myself. I simply took the label sheet (or whatever you want to call it) from the new frame and turned it over; it was plain white on the back and formed a border around the poster. Actually, looking at your photo, I think it's probably the same frame, as mine was from Wilkinsons.

That's a great help, Nigel! I was about to order two from GB EYE (I have another poster to frame) for £20 each + £10 postage for a total of £50. I then noticed that there's a bundle of four of them for £55 and no postage costs. Two for £50 or four for £55 is no competition really, so it looks as though I'll have a couple of spare ones floating around for future use. Thanks for taking the time to help me out
