LSotW; hypothetical straight to DVD...

Something that my bro brought up during the weeks of waiting between each issue of Wreckers was that it would be cool to see it in animated form. Rather than have Hasbro focus all it's energy on each new cartoon series version, they could produce one-off straight to DVD movies, much like Marvel and DC have done with Planet Hulk and Batman/Superman; Public Enemies.
Good or bad idea (I'd personally say a damn good idea!), it's always fun to speculate on this kind of thing. And in the spirit of it all, I thought I'd whack together my preferred cast list were Last Stand Of The Wreckers: The Movie ever to happen.

In purely hypothetical terms I would want Gonzo to animate it (but only if they could get the same team, budget and timeframe that they had for Yukikaze. This is an OAV we are talking about after all, not a TV series. In the end it is only hypothetical money I am spending anyways....).

As to a composer..... hmmm. I'm inclined to say Kenji Kawai possibly. I can imagine that he might turn in something interesting.

Gonzo was a studio I was also thinking of, more for the merits of it's work on Full Metal Panic!, but again, that's a TV series so I can see how awesome a one off of greater budget by them would be. Of course, on the flip side, they also worked on TF: Cybertron...
My other big studio of choice would definitely be Gainax. Has anyone here seen Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone? Phwoar!

Not seen FMP I'm afraid. Yukikaze was my first real acquaintance with Gonzo as a studio.

And that isn't even the worst looking thing that they have put out. Their stock footage sequences on their managed to look so much better than anything they turned out for Robotech:The Shadow Chronicles that it is hard to credit.

I have seen very little of Gainax's output, to my shame. I tend to associate them primarily with Teggan Topp Gurren Lagann which, whilst technically competent.... proved to be not really to my taste. I must have a look-see as to whether You Are (Not) Alone is available for rental though (*checks* Aha! That is it dumped in to my rental queue where time will take its course).

I would have actually preferred to see the original Marvel UK and US comics books translated into a cartoon series before anything that IDW does.

As a series, sure, but as a one-off straight to DVD movie? Furman's stories in particular would suffer because of his wonderful intertwining and gradual unfolding of a lot of story threads over a period of months... Maybe not so much with Budiansky. A Dark Star feature could be cool.
