Certainly not a situation I have heard of before! I like that he was initially all "Ah, just sweat. Back to heavy duty space work."

Ahh yes, I saw this too. The "We are Martians" things always comes around at these conferences and the media love it. They have a nice idea here but given that the clays as 'template' for the genesis of life is only one of many competing (and all very speculative) ideas I'm not hugely impressed by it.
Plus also the idea presented here that it is somehow more probable that proto-life molecules got started on Mars, blasted off its surface, survived the interplanetary transport and landing onto our world and then went on to propagate here vs. there were less suitable environments on Earth, but still some alternative seems to be over-reaching for the sake of being controversial/trendy.
There also wouldn't be a meaningful way to test this hypothesis so it would remain just as speculation. Interesting speculation mind.

Meanwhile, on SaturnAn unusually large storm is making an awful mess of Saturn's normally smooth upper atmosphere. -Nick

Incredible. I'm thrilled, but also a little sad. I grew up following the Voyagers, as I'm sure many of us did. To think that this tiny sentinel of humanity has finally left its home solar system is actually quite emotional.

That would... be a heck of a last sight to see. But I'm not sure I'd volunteer for a manned colony/Axis drop on Jupiter. Even if the Jovian's had started things...
