CRT TV Problems
Stuck the TV on for the boy this morning and .....oh my goodness !
All the colour is wrong, the blue not tuned screen is a pattern like a 360 degree rainbow (Yellow disc, orange ring, blue ring (tops of ring now obscured by tops of screen), green ring and the edges of a red ring in the far corners.
Picture definition is fine, but it's basically black & white overlaid with a paler version of the above pattern.
TV's a Toshiba 28W33B
I'm guessing the TV has ceased to be.

TV from about 1990 [ones that where from mid 80] suffered from the screen going green, remember those big sets that where heavy. with brown wodden case.

Previous residents (6 years plus ago) left a sky dish on the house. 2 years abo it had it's LNB knocked off by the local hooligan footballers who can't read the no ball games sign.
So I popped outside today, wedged the LNB back on and plugged the lead into the TV.
I now have Freesat including the HD channels. Result.
Now Very Happy !

Bump As documented at Swincon my freesat has packed it in. The signal has been dodgy for a while and the consensus was that water had got into the lashed on by masking tape LNB. I've been making enquiries about getting a new dish put on ..... .... but then I discovered you can replace the LNB! A quick examination of the dish arm revealed that the damage was to the LNB casing itself. Unlash the damaged lnb, Pop the locking pin out, off comes the damaged mount. New LNB from eBay in the post. More to follow.... (LNB = en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low Noise Block-downconverter, the thing pointing at the dish with the wires coming out of it)

Our tv has been playing up. The picture keeps freezing. It fixes itself if you leave it for a few minutes or give it "a delicate technical adjustment" which makes me suspect a bad solder connection somewhere on the PCB.
This has annoyed the wife so we bought a new TV last week.....
WHICH I HATE!
The difference between too loud and too quiet on the volume is one click. The satellite tuner doesn't sort them into the Freesat order and numbers. Switching between the aerial tuner and freesat tuner is a pain in the bottom with multiple steps through the menu. Switching between aspect ratios also involves multiple steps through the menu. The remote is difficult for me to use, buttons too small and close together.
I managed to stop the wife from tipping the old set this morning, after a free and frank exchange of views, in the hope of finding someone who'll take the back off the old set and hunt the loose connection down.

My sympathies. You are not the only one having TV troubles... At the moment mine is intermittently fritzing out, which involves it displaying a load of visual noise and expelling a maximum volume blast of static hiss into the room. At the moment the solution to this is to Big Red Switch it off and on again. But it is slightly frustrating that it does it without warning - one minute everything is fine, the next The Flash has been replaced by a grey fog and an earsplitting blast of noise...And all without Earth 2 Laurel Lance in sight.

Note to self:
The next time the audio refuses to work on one of the HDMI ports on my TV, reset it by unplugging at the mains.
I knew this a while ago and had top waste half an hour rediscovering it yesterday!
