Various websites are reporting that the next Spider-Man will be Andrew Garfield. When I saw the picture on this page, I though. Oh! He looks... like Tobey Maguire. Though the more I look at it, the more I think he looks like a cross between Tobet Maguire and Daniel Radcliffe. Garfield's no stranger to New York - he played Frank in Daleks in Manhattan.

I just dont get it, isnt this meant to be a reboot? With Peter Parker as a teenager. Whats the point of hiring a 26 year old. Couldn't they find someone under 21 so would still be able to play a young Parker in the third movie.

It is indeed a reboot, though perhaps Mr Garfield will be schooled at playing a teenager. Let's give him a chance.
I would like just one good Spider-Man movie. Not fussed about sequels, personally.

Indeed, if they can get one, fun, movie out of this I will count it a success - whether or not there are any more.
That said, without context the mental image that the title of this thread conjoured up was quite surreal. The idea of an orange cat swinging between buildings in search if Lasagne was.... startling to say the least. :-)

I really liked the first Raimi Spider-Man movie. I don't really see what a reboot could do different either.

I found the first two Spider-Man films to be tediously angst ridden completely lacking in fun.
Just give me a fun Spider-Man film.

Yep. A two parter spliced together and released as a film. Guest stars included Ted Danson and Deep Space Nine's Rosalind Chao.

Any Spider-Man movie is going to have him as a bullied kid at school and then his uncle dies... I dunno, fun Spider-Man always seems to end up as Spider-Man acts like a jackass and then learns his lesson.

If they're focusing on the origin again, then it's bound to be angst ridden. Spider-Man's life is a tragedy. Just think of all the defining moments for the character in the comic, and they are pretty much all bad. Orphaned, becomes responsible for the death of his surrogate father, the death of Gwen Stacey, the death of Harry Osborn, the 'return' and subsequent destruction of his parents as engineered by the Chameleon at the behest of the already dead Harry, learning he's a clone, and just as he gets used to the idea is forced back into being Spider-Man amidst learning that he's not the clone, the clone he'd come to see as a brother is right now being murdered by the supposedly dead original Green Goblin while the missus is miscarriaging their child at hospital, Aunt May dies, then returns and gets shot into a coma... and on and on and on. Even when Pete is thrown a positive event bone, it's only a matter of time before it's snatched away again. His marriage to Mary Jane (now never happened), their unborn child (dead or abducted by a lackey of the Goblin, depending on which writer is following it up), the return of May (only to be sniped by the Kingpin). Striking a balance between fun and angst is something even the comics have struggled with, and I think that ultimately the first two Raimi movies captured that balance, and the overall tone of the Lee/Ditko/Romita years, perfectly.
But leaving the past where it is, I hope this new film starts with the assumation that everybody already knows the origin story. It really doesn't feel all that long ago that I was watching the first Raimi film at the cinema with my best mate, and I just don't feel like that particular story needs to be told again quite so soon. Hit the ground running.

One word for you: SINISTER-SIX!!!!!
Is that one word, or two?
Personally, I think another movie about Spiderman's origins isn't necissary. They could whizz pasted that similar to the Hulk reboot. Perhaps maybe. I would love to see Spidey in the Avengers somewhere!

Never mind Avengers, reboot a few Marvel film series all at the same time and have the New Fantastic Four!

It's been known for a while they were doing a reboot and I was quite annoyed about it. But when I think about it I wasn't particularly happy with the previous Spidey films. I remember the first film having various problems including a crap Goblin costume. The second film was better but quite similar to the first, whilst the third had too much going on and had Mary Jane captured for the third film on the trot.
So actually I might be quite interested in the new film.

If they're focusing on the origin again, then it's bound to be angst ridden. Spider-Man's life is a tragedy. Yes, but he got to meet the Transformers in 1984, and tie up Megatron with his webbing! Try and tell me that isn't a live-action movie people would flock to see. Martin

But he need Venom to be able to hold Megatron. He didn't hold him long in the Avengers crossover - even though they used the cover scene within the comic.
