Strange, I can't find an Avatar thread.
Anyway, for those who didn't see it, it's being rereleased in the cinema at the end of August as a Special Edition with an extra 8 minutes of footage.

Good grief! Didn't it do well enough for the studio when it was first released?

8 minutes - wow!
Are those eight extra minutes going to make the film watchable by any chance?

Assuming it's also going to be available in 3D I'll be going along to see it. I've not bothered with the DVD because 2D Avatar doesn't interest me.

I have now seen Avatar on DVD. One of the most boring films I have ever seen. Oh well!

I really wasn't expecting it to be so thoroughly dull. It really didn't hold the attention at all. Oh well, the nice thing about rental is it didn't exactly cost me much.

I'm curious to see how it plays on DVD. While not the most amazing film I've seen as some people view it I did find the film at cinema quite beautiful in a similar way to maybe Fantasia. Stripped of the big screen I worry all thats left is a live action version of Fern Gully, which isn't really a bad thing as such but a bit mediocre.

The rendering and the light-sourcing of the CG is some of the best I have ever seen. On that level I cannot fault the film, on a technical level it is very impressive. It is just that there really isn't much film in the film leaving it a hollow and unengaging exercise for all its technical accomplishment. (The sound design is disappointingly far inferior to the visual realisation as well, which just adds to the sense of lifelessness of the whole thing).

Smurfs was ok last night - it wasn't that dreadful as people said it was. call it smurfs cos the director gave up on his "I'm going to do the Spiderman film"
