RE: Transformers Magazine #1
I swore I was not going to pick this up but the very nice cover stock and pretty decent original cover compelled me. This is very much an expanded version of the Generations reprint series, though you get 3 stories rather than 1 and the publication is, ah, magazine size. I would say this is a title aimed more at general readers curious off the back of some summer action flick rather than, well, those of us who post on TF message boards and probably have all these stories already! Decent mix of stories, nicely presented. There is scope for some development in the future though. This format would be ideal for some editorial commentary on the contents page (re: Marvel's Transformers UK) and a feature page or two (profiles?).
Contents are not quite as advertised though:
www.idwpublishing.com/titles/tf-magazine.shtml
Dreamwave's output is represented by Armada #1, not Generation One vol3 #1.
*ok to print*

Five of your Earth pounds was what FP charged. Armada #1 was a lot better than I remembered it being, though the dialogue and the DW house-style lets the side down.

£5 for stories I've already read?
If I see it and am tempted by the nice paper, then maybe I'll get it.

It's okay, an eleven page story spread to twenty two issues. Now Armada 2 is an absolute gem.

Quite liked Armada myself. The highlight for me was the Moonbase saga in #8-11 (I think). Energon was good too, with the oneshots working especially well. Only problem with Energon was, the rest of it was building up to something we never got to see.

Just picked this up today (i'm a bit late when it comes to picking up comics) and am looking forward to reading just the Armada issue out of it as its the only one in the issue I have yet to read. it does pose one question though - now that they have put the Marvel US #42 in it does this mean they will miss this issue out when they pick up the Generations run of comics again or will they try and scrounge a bit more money out of us by also reprinting it in there?

I'll take box no. 2, Jenny.
Obligatory criticism of DW aside, the Armada reprint works much better in an A4 format. I was impressed by the amount of detail that appeared in every panel - detail that was often too small to see in the original US size. I had completely missed the tenderils that appear from Hot Shot's fingers when he enters a restricted area, for example. The setup for the Armada series portrays Cybertron City (or whatever it was called) as a vibrant metropolis in which thousands of transformers live and work. We are shown bustling cars and robots that, although not part of the storyline, suggest that other events are occuring in the city.

The Magazine is essentially Generations in all but name and there are also the UK reprint issues. Reprints continue, it's just the 'Generations' moniker that has been dropped.

When I was round at Ralph's on Thursday I had a look at his copy and the production values sold me on this. If it's a quarterly affair then I will definitely be picking it up, monthly and I'd probably reconsider.

I picked this up as well, despite not wanting to bother. The paper stock and the glossy card cover is really nice.
I must admit, IDW might be more expensive for comics but their paper quality (especially on the TPBs is exceptional). Compared to the New Avengers/TF crossover, which seems to printed on really thin stock that is prone to curling.
