Was waiting for me when I got back today. New strip didn't do much for me and I can't quite figure out when it takes place, maybe I'm just tired, but hey, Pin badges! The Gathering is better than I remember though.
Next month you get a tat-tastic Neutron Blaster Disc Launcher!

The new strip was centered around dedicated Hubber Ralph Burns? I don't remember seeing him in the movie!
EDIT: After looking in Discussion, I think I understand.

I don't want to know what kind of strip Ralph did or didn't do for you when you found him waiting for you.

That would have been clever of me. Alas I was just referring to Ralph having his letter printed.

Wow. My life-long dream of being printed on the letters page of a UK newsstand TF comic has come true. I shall buy four copies!
Unfortunately, this means the comic is doomed. When I write in, titles die. Wrote to Fantastic Five and was in last letters page. Cancelled. Wrote to Captain Marvel and was in last letters page. Cancelled. Wrote to Doctor Who fanzine The Doctor's Recorder. Vanished not long after. Wrote to Transformers: Evolutions and was in last letters page. No more Evolutions series came out. Wrote to IDW's Star Trek: TNG comic and was in #1 and #3's letters page. No more TNG series have been solicited.
I am sorry. I hope you all enjoyed Titan's TF comic.
*weeps*

Dear Mech Mail,
As a decrepit 29-year-old-fan who grew up with the 80's UK TRANSFORMERS comic (back when everything was made of wood), I approached this comic with a genuine excitement. How delightful it was to find a fun, pleasingly designed publication clearly not talking down to the target audience, i.e. The Kids, not old fogies like me!
The originated 'Optimus Prime' strip was a fine slice of breezy fun and the fact-file features were well done. A good job all round and I shall be back for issue 2. Now excuse me while I put my Decepticon dog tags on.
Ralph Burns
Another satisfied customer. We're glad Issue #1 pushed your buttons. At the time of writing, Issue #2 is just hitting the shelves and it's an absolute stormer! We're also looking forward to our future readers survey that will help us glean just how many 'old fogies' are actually reading this comic. Should be an interesting excercise...

Tis a good comic. The Devastator strip felt a bit empty, but then it is a character piece about Devastator so I suppose it achieves what it set out to do! That and the fact that both reprints were of the opening, 'recap' pages of their respective issue 2s made the whole comic a bit light. That said, you do get a lot of Don Fig.
Seriously though it's still good fun, and (as has been commented, it has a missive from our good Doctor, which means you really do need to buy it. Really looking forward to the Marcello Matere Ironhide strip next month as well!

Someone hasn't been paying attention this issue. On the contents page the main strip is called Prelude: Devastator but the actual story is called Lost In Space Part 2: Devastator. Also, I don't think much of the How To Draw Optimus Prime section. Imagine the kid who begins to draw the body. He gets to step 3 where he has to colour most of the body in black and then realises in the following step that there is still at least one white bit he has to draw on the part he has just coloured in black. Drawing the right arm isn't too clever either as most of it is obscurred by the body in the completed picture. Still, the preview for the next issue is good as it promises a free gift that can be misused as a weapon.

Another enjoyable issue. I will admit to a tingle of pleasure when I saw my letter in a newsstand UK TF mag. My 8 year old self would be proud. I know it sounds silly but I will purchase a second copy to keep nice.
I hought the material written for the Megatron/Optimus Prime head-to-head was really well composed, adding more to both characters than was in the movie. Blackouts profile was quite neat too.

I got the impression that the How to Draw body parts were drawn in full, then bits digitally removed to create each "stage".

I like the Devastator strip - it's trying to force him into character introspection and dealing with a wider issue, but he's having none of it! He's a fun character and I'm annoyed he can't be used after #6 (except in zombie form, according to Furman's blog) because he gets killed in the film.
It is amazing how much character development the movie cast are getting from the Profiles and Smackdowns, isn't it?

Don't forget that Simon Furman also wrote The Movie Guide; some of it is the same text. Presumably it all came from some production character guide.
