Do you have a good supply of stench eggs then?

I only eat real eggs.

Even in hotels.

I know whenever I'm at a hotel, I like to see room service leave a stench egg on my pillow

Always in hotels, except in the AA2005 hotel when they took away my breakfast eggs as I walked over to get them. I'll never forget! Never forget!!! -Ralph

Stench eggs will help you forget.

I just found a Manta Force mini comic in issue 33 of Thundercats. Must be a launch thing as the only toy featured is the main ship. No stink anything, just a Major Vex as the bad guy.

I must see this!

|
Post by Pinwig on Oct 21, 2017 18:31:07 GMT
I'll try and scan it, but the main page is an A3 spread and my scanner's only A4.
This is odd isn't it? Manta Force was a strip in the Eagle surely? I can see why it wasn't in Transformers - Hasbro wouldn't endorse their mag giving away a freebie advertising some upstart toy range from Swindon.

I recall the time Manta Force polluted Thundercats. That was not a good week.
Marvel UK did put out a Manta Force Special which came with a covermounted little MF man. It was quite expensive for the time (99p). It is now rare as rocking horse shit to find.

That's really weird. Manta Force was in Eagle from Sept 87 - Jan 88, so just as the eighth Eagle issue was going on sale, there was this promo comic in Thundercats too? Odd.

I feel I need to know more about 80s Marvel UK. It's a pity there isn't a book on the subject. I do have a full set of Dragons Claws, and also the UK version of the Punisher which came out around 88/89?

Yup. The Punisher was short lived and stopped with no notice. The following issue was neant to be the first in a glossy new fortnightly version but it never appeared!

Pretty sure I have seen that strip before - maybe even in the Marvel special! I have a copy somewhere...
Steve White (of Transformers fame) was one of the creators of 'Storm Over Serpio' in the Special.

The Punisher was an amazing comic. It was wider than A4 and the cover art was always great. I think I was drawn to it because RoboCop was the backup strip, but stayed for the main strip. I know it wasn't on glossy paper but it felt so premium and grown up to me. I must dig those out and see what the actual strips in them were.

I know they did the Daredevil/Punisher crossover "Child's Play" at some point, but other than that I can't remember what Punisher tales they reprinted. Andy

It started with CIRCLE OF BLOOD and later printed CHILD'S PLAY (with a Geoff Senior cover). IIRC it printed the initial stories from the Punisher's ongoing series after COB.
Robocop was in glorious black and white and even made the cover of #3 (Geoff Senior again) then was replaced by The 'Nam.
Skull badge with issue 1!
The editorial had character to it, often referring to an 'Aunt Mable' who would not approve!
I still have the first 5 issues in a box somewhere. The rest of the run was damaged in storage. I think Mr Pinwig's memory cheats: I'm sure it was the same dimensions as other Marvel UK comics. It did feel different though due to the paper stock and issue 1 was a bumper 64 pages!

My memory cheats all the time. Can't trust it. Was it really A4? I'll have to have a look. I thought it was more old 2000AD shaped, but then reprinting US comics that'd make no sense.

All Marvel UK comics (even THE BOG PAPER and IT'S WICKED!) of the 80's/early 90's were the same dimensions (except for Dragon's Claws, Death's Head and The Sleeze Brothers) prior to the Marvel UK Universe in 1992.
