Who's your favorite Triple Changer?
I have not included the 'Base' Triple changers (Metroplex, Trypticon, Fort Max, Scorponok) 'cos I feel they are in a different category. I've not included Tracks 'cos I think he's just a car with bits added on (as fun as he is!). And I've not included Hotspot and any of the other Special Teams leaders who have 'repair bay' modes or whatever, 'cos they're not really a second alt mode, were as Scattershot has a distinct second alt mode. So I think I've got them all, shoutout (and add) if I've missed anyone!
I have alot of love for Snapdragon, I enjoyed his space ship and dinosaurthing modes, as opposed to two vehicle alt modes. But for me it's a toss up between Blitzwing and Astrotrain. Two comletely different alt modes in one toy, and back then this was something amazing. Springer I think has the same alt mode but with a rotor put on the roof. Broadside I've never owned, but I've never heard anything good about his 'battleship' mode. Sandstorm I still own, and I really like him, his alts modes are different and good to play with. But it's the originals, Blitzwing and Astrotrain who not only have a nostalgic value, but also I think transform into the most interesting and different alt modes. And only because of the gun turret, I'm going to vote ASTROTRAIN!

I think Blitzwing's the best. Die-cast metal, firing missiles, sword and gun, plus reasonably realistic Earth tank disguise. And the jet mode looks good from above. I agree Tracks isn't a Triple Changer, but he's still a better toy than any of them. And Springer's not a Triple Changer any more than Tracks is. Hotspot, Motormaster, Silverbolt and Onslaught all had base modes. Onslaught's was best. Martin

Onslaught's is good.... but would be better if the launcher gimmick was intact.

I've always thought Sanstorm had two distinct modes equally as good as Astrotrain, but doesn't seem to get the same kind of love. Maybe because the robot mode is a little weaker, maybe because spaceships are cool.
I'll always like Broadside, even if it's not the most spectacular toy it's still more complex than the only other battleship transformer (Grandus).
I probably wouldn't have even thought of Doubledealer if it wasn't on the list but thats one hell of a good toy. So I think thats getting my vote.
Punch - Counterpunch should also probably be an option.

Isn't Fort Max *techinically* a battleship in his long mode ?
(any joy with those guns Andy?)

I'd have to go for Blitzwing myself. His humanoid mode is a little bit odd-looking but his other two modes make up for it in my opinion. I quite like the way the two modes are integrated as well.

So would I be right in assuming that Blitzwing and Astrotrain were designed much earlier and by a different company from Springer, Sandstorm, Broadside and Octane? Apart from being released by Hasbro a year earlier the quality does seem to be of a different order.

I don't know, I personally would put Octane and Sandstorm in the same brackets as Blitzwing and astrotrain. Springer and Broadside are more in line with the helicoptor triple changer that didn't make the Transformers line up.

Blitzwing is definitely a former Diaclone toy (Autobot boxed Cars, Decepticon Jets, Constructicons, Trainbots, Insecticons & Dinobots) See www.diaclone.net/orid/diatri/d091.htmlAstrotrain is thought to be an unproduced Diaclone toy, similar to the Special Teams and Metroplex.

BROADSIDE!
I love it. I sadly only have a knackered junker. Never been able to get a good condition one with his AXE OF JUSTICE!

Can't decide between Blitzwing or Astrotrain. The way the panelling works on Astrotrain's train mode to conceal the white of the shuttle (Japanese version) is pretty awesome, but then Blitzwing is a tank and a fighter jet.
