"Art by Boo" as in Boo Cook off 2000AD?
Coz that'd be awesome.

Subscription copy dropped this morning.
Lenticular note pad and pen attached. There's a centre-spread poster of the Decepticons by Geoff Senior. Starscream now answers the letter pages.
The main story is pretty promising as we see Starscream's militia and a good explanation of how we can see some new Decepticons within the confines of what was presented in the film. The art by Boo is an acquired taste, if you like his stuff which I do then you will dig it. The only problem is the colours by Robin Smith are too bright for the tale being told.

The Geoff Senior poster (which one assumes was meant to be a cover at one point) is by turns ugly and scary as hell. It would have been nice to see that one jumping off the news-stands to frighten younglings.

I was jealous to receive a text from Turnbull informing me he had his copy 10 bloody days before it hit newsagents! 10 days!
Do the original art covers start with #8, then?

I read the copy Ralph stole from me in FPE. I thank him for his selfless thieving. Consequently when the call for more toilet paper was heard from Ralph this weekend I left it outside the loo.
I only get the magazine for the new UK strips and this months was just terrible. The artwork was half-hearted (see Starscream's various wing configurations for one thing!) and the colouring was too 'in-your-face'. I think there is a good story in there but can't quite find it under the art - the whole back and forth time thing really needed some more substantial visual clues to help the reader to get a handle on it quickly.

It is fair to say that so far Ralph getting that copy has saved the Hub on the order of £7- £8 as several of us have seen it and decided it is an issue we can safely skip. Like yourself, I've only been getting it for the UK originated strip as the other two stories are things I already know I'm not interested in and the art on #7 for the strip looked extremely poor (and somewhat unfinished) - with a lot of panels where the colourist has been adding in detail and backgrounds to prevent the panel being mostly empty, Starscream depicted with most of the rear section of his fighter mode missing............ and entire panels where it is difficult to comprehend what is going on.
Nope, definitely one I shall be skipping - not even a character profile of Ninja-Boom-Boxbot is enough to make it worth my while. I'll come back next month when hopefully the art will be better.

I read the copy Ralph stole from me in FPE. I thank him for his selfless thieving. And yet I offered to give you my issue for free! In the end, Nick claimed it. As for #7...well they can't all be winners. I was amused by the apparent Yomtov homage colouring job on the Geoff Senior poster. -Ralph

Liked the story... shame about the art.
I might have been less disappointed if there hadn't been a Geoff Senior poster of terrifying, hellishly-illuminated undead Decepticons tearing through a destroyed city and reaching out for the souls of all readers. It means all I can think is that Starscream's Militia would've been so much more awesome if Geoff had drawn it.
Still pleasantly surprised to find how much I'm enjoying Gathering in the reprints. The four-page Predacons-VS-Mutants scene no longer comes off as a waste of paper and pointless plot divergence, instead reading like a little complete side story of the Preds biting off more than they can chew. (And ironically, the three pages of plot-progression came off as the filler this time round...)

Boo is an awesome artist. I cant blame his art for being below his usual standard as I know what a horrible and uncomfortable experience drawing Movie TFs is.
That Geoff Senior poster should have also been the cover art as opposed to the ugly stock imagery.
I wonder if the comic will slowly lean towards Animated as the main focus.

I recieved a rather strange message from my mate Colin. From what a managed to decipher, his kid Aidan McKay should have his picture in the latest issue. CONFIRMATION?

The arts not exactly to my taste, but I think its the combination of colours and art that I dislike. If there was ever a cartoon set in the movieverse I think it would look like this and be quite good but as a comic just looks a bit plain. Do like the story or at least the idea behind it. I'm not happy that Starscream destroyed Dewbot. But then his spark survives so he'll be back.
Yup Aidan Mckay and his "Huuuuuge" collection. Actually it is big at Five I only had about 10. But I only got my first ones on my fifth birthday.
Im also enjoying the back up strips even though Ive read them before. And this issue was worth the price for the free gifts alone, first time I've thought that.
I wonder when/if the comics new strips will start being based on Animated?

What was with the colouring too? Starscream was a G1 repaint.

The artwork was not to my tastes... for the robots anyway, I am quite fond of the way Boo does people. Considering the tone of the story, I thought the colouring was way off.
And is that really going to be the cover for the next issue? An Ironhide traced from a promotional still fighting overweight soldiers?

Actually, I'm not sure that it was Dewbot: it was red. Cokebot? I have been quite impressed by the children's collections that have been pictured so far. Partly by their sizes (a reflection of today's affluence and/or disposable society, perhaps) and also by the number of included toys that were released before the children were even born. My favourite part of this issue was Starscream's letters section. The joke of Furman being a shaven Maximal ape (especially on the head) was laugh-out-loud funny. The strip I found a bit confusing because of the time-jumping, as someone has already mentioned. It would have been better if sequential. I've not heard of Boo before; whilst not unlikable I found the cartoony style (including the bright colours) too much of a contrast with the Figueroa/Burcham art of the other strips.

Two things I forgot to mention: I was very impressed with the free pen, good enough to be released commercially in its own right; and did anyone notice my name amongst the competition winners?

I did not, but congrats in joining the horde of Hubbers who have got their name in the comic!
