Seeing as how we need to kick off a new board I thought I'd share the second part of Ruined Empire as seen in Flaunting Convention, an a5 zine produced for the Newcastle meeting in August. Story by Garry Bodsworth and myself, with me on art. COMMENTARYI ended up doing three versions of this page, all using the exact same layout and poses. The first I was unhappy with as it wasn't inked very well, the second was done in a style closer to my own before I decided to go back to the Yaniger-esque style of Part One. Andy

COMMENTARYEagle-eyed readers may spot that the "SLISH" sound effect was used in Target: 2006.

COMMENTARYThe image of Soundwave in Panel 5 has to be one of my favourites, I was just really happy with the way he came out.

COMMENTARY I'm quite glad I got to write and draw a nice "Where's Wally" style panel. For those of you keeping score the Autobots pictured in the panel are: Hoist, Crosshairs, Inferno, Smokescreen, Silverbolt, Snarl, Swoop, Sludge, Slag, Grimlock, Fizzle, Cosmos, Jazz, Springer & Prowl. On the podium is Perceptor, Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus and Grotusque. I will have to edit that at some point as it was pointed out that all the Monsterbots are dead in 2020 in TMUK continuity. In panel 3 behind Rodimus you can see Trailbreaker & Jetfire (both looking very much like their toy incarnations) and Wreck-Gar.

COMMENTARY This is the second version of this page, my original version divide the page in a 2 x 2 grid. The tower exploding in Panel 1 is the Communications Tower as seen in Transformers: The Movie.

COMMENTARYBoth Garry and I were looking to show Rodimus Prime as being a capable leader during all of this as opposed to the failed Prime he often ends up being portrayed as. So here we are showing off some of his tactical ability.

COMMENTARYRodimus gets to be a confident and controlled leader for at least a couple of pages and we get to see Trailbreaker doing something for once.

COMMENTARYA fairly simple and clean layout for the last page as we leave on something of a cliffhanger with Optimus' body being stolen and Rodimus being a little shell-shocked by this and hints at something larger on the horizon - well it is a story about the Empire after all.

Although that lettering on Part 2 is fucking awful.
It pains me.

No you are not.
Though I do like Grimlock's restraining hand on Slag on Page 4. This brings me joy.
