Hello Sportsfans. Just a quick bash though, like my last review, don't expect a great sprawling, cognitive review as per Uncle Phil or Daddy Tompson.
Warbot Defender, aka Springer, is Fansprojects first 'totally from scratch' Transformer. Springer has had his famous name given to a couple of repaints in recent years, but neither of them did him justice- mainly 'cos they weren't triple changers! Fansproject Warbot Defenders takes care of that.
GENERAL
The engineering on this figure is spank your arse fantastic. Every aspect of this figure, from paint aps to packaging is highly detailed and magnificently produced. I cannot fault it.
ROBOT MODE
Robot mode has more articulation than you can shake a cat at (?!). I wont list it all, but you will not want for articulation if you had this figure. As G1, the rotors become his 'Light saber', and he has two blasters which he can carry in lower leg holsters. Colouring is spot on G1ickly. Balance is dodgy though- it can be hard to pose him. Sometimes he just stands up like a daisy, others he falls flat on his face. I think that has something to do with...
METAL
Yep, he has loads of it. Chest, legs. It's all over the place. I'm a fan of metal on my Transformers, as long time Hubers, oops, I mean Transmasterers will remember from my obsession with 6" Titaniums (all of which I still adore!). Warbot Springer though takes the idea of Titaniums to a whole new level. This, it could be said, is how Titaniums should have been if 'They'd' have put more thought into it. The metal compliments the figure, as oppose to defining it. Although, I believe, it is the metal that can cause Warbot Springer to be unbalanced.
ALT MODES
No mode by mode break down from this reviewer, Sportsfans! Suffice to say, I owned a G1 Springer way back, and I was struck by how, er, pants (?) his alt modes were. Yes he had a car mode, yes he was a helicopter mode, but they were basically the same mode just slightly modified a bit. Well Warbot Springer's 2 alt modes look and feel completely different from eachother. It's super G1 Springer City! Transformation is complex inbetween alt modes, and the pay off are 2 distinct modes that are fun to play with and have a character all of their own. One difference between this and the G1 Springer is that the 'car' mode is much more 'tanky', yet still has a feel of speed to it.
TRANSFORMATION
Complicated in parts, easy in other parts. Instructions are good. The hardest part are the arms. Getting them into the correct place for helicopter mode in particular did make me a bit cross.
SIZE
The important bit. Warbot Springer is a good, bulky deluxe in size. Not quite a voyager, but slightly more than a deluxe, which I, in my weird little size obsessed way, think is spot on.
OVERALL
Well done Fansproject! Now make a Blitzwing. 10 out of 10 in my humble opinion. HUZZAGH!
