You've just been employed by Hasbro US & you job is to design a box set to tie in with 30 years of Transformers. You have bene told that you can only use 5 characters & that you may be doing a box set for every year to tie in with 30 years of the line for each year after.
You can reuse original toys or do a robot heroes set.
What character / toys would you select? You can also do for following years too - 84,85,86,87,88,89,90,91,92[UK],93,94,95
BW 96,97,98, BM 99,00 RID 01, Armada 02,03 Energon 04, Cybertron 05, Universe 06, Movie 07, Animated 08, ROTF 09, Generations 10.

I'd do RiD Sky-Byte, BW Cybershark, G1 Sharkticon, Energon Sharkticon and BW Hellscream.

Blimey! Good question! Too hard for Shockprowl's brain. Is this 5 from each year? That's possibly too many, maybe have, I dunno, a couple of Autobot and Decepticon sets from G1, a G2 set, and a Beast Wars set, 6 in all. Maybe? I'd go for original toys n'all.

5 from each year - i just picked 5 because that is the number Hasbro have in those legends packs. If you want to amend & do a 2 charaters from each year - but not more than 5. If you are thinking about having a comic reprint in the box set ?

But your box set is set for release 30 years later - so the 1984 box set would come out 2014. BW set 2206 - RID 2031 etc.

I think I would want to theme each set rather than do a year by year.
So something like
"Childs best friend set"
with Bumblebee, Hot Rod, Cheetor, Hotshot and..... Wheelie based on Headmasters or Bulkhead in Animated as theres plenty of other BBs or maybe Jazz.
"Oh they are so Devious!"
Starscream, Shockwave, Tarantulas, Sideways .........Animated BA maybe
"What the hell?"
Actionmaster Thundercracker, ..................
"Look we cater to girls too"
Arcee, Airrazor, Elita 1, Chromia
"Ripped from the comics"
Impactor, Xarron, RacknRuin, Scrounge and Flame
Straxus, Jhiaxus, Rook, Mindset and .................
"Ripped from the screen"
Alpha Trion, Botanica, Mountaindewbot, Signal Lancer, Grandus and any other Animated design please.

They could be a sub line that Hasbro have running along side the speical yearly sets. In RID box set - a newly designed legends Prime & Magnus.

1985 box set. remake of Devastator but with figures being legends size. Also using advancement in toy design to make it a challege to the fan project series extra limbs. But differance being head, hands are part of the Decepticon instead of add on.
1986 set - Movie line. Using legend scale Generations Wreckgar, Cyclonus & Scourge - a reworked Universe Galvatron toy mixing in elements of Movie 2 Bludgeon to make the toy better.
Reworked Classic Rodimus toy to try & redo the MP Rodimus HR/RP transform but in a DX toy. OR IDW style Ultra Magnus.

That would be ok for 30 years of Warwithin #1. But back in the Marvel days they had different cybertron modes but they still had the same robot mode where you could see they transformed into a police car.
For the Galvatron one - they could add a gun mode in there - so matching his original mode.
