Fans of indicia will note that #10 states the average net circulation per issue for July-December 2007 as 45,092.
Not too shabby.

Indeed not. Glad to see it's doing well.

Awesome!
Where'd that data come from?

The indicia in Issue 10 of the Titan comic. Although I'm pretty sure I'd seen it on Down The Tubes as well.

Ah, there it is - that is impressive, long may it continue. (It also means it's outselling every IDW title bar the first few issues of Infiltration...)

I wonder if the circulation figures take into account subscriptions or not?

I think so, but then I might be misunderstanding what "net circulation" means. If it doesn't, that means it must be selling even MORE...

Net usually refers to deductions, after all your gross salary is higher than the net so it sounds like it doesn't.

I was assuming "net" in this case meant "after all the unsold copies are returned" - i.e., an overage of 45,000 being bought by customers.

True, though US direct market and UK newsstands are very different markets. Anyone know how the TF-UK figure compares to UK comic newsstand sales? -Ralph

I assume returned copies are made available later as back issues.

Here is the data on the TF comic to date it only refers to the first six issues. LinkageIt's about 10k behind Panini's Spectacular Spider-Man, almost doing double the Dandy's sales and 5 k behind Beano Max. Twenty behind regular Beano, 110k behind Doctor Who adventures but coupled with it being a fortnightly title that might be doing it a disservice. It's also behind Scooby Doo - but these are all fairly established titles so I'd be more interested in seeing things in a year or so. Andy

Average sales for Jan-June 2008 were 38,733. Seen in context here: www.downthetubes.net/resources/comics_links/comics_by_country/ukcomicssales.htmlA smaller drop than I expected, considering the movie is long gone. The true test will be sales for the rest of 2008 when the DVD has already had its moment in the sun, publicity for the second film has yet to kick in and the title faces competition on newsstands from Titan's own TF Animated title. -Ralph

I expect we'll see new movie toys on the shelves 6 months tops, and build up before that. Even if there is a big drop off in that time I'd be very surprised to see Titan cancel it for all of 6 issues. Even if they intend to relaunch it with a new issue one, or a comic adaptation, cutting short stories that are going to tie into the sequel wouldn't make much sense.
Plus Animated will give them a new platform to plug the movie one.

Plus Animated will give them a new platform to plug the movie one. Andy I have a feeling that the Animated title is likely to cannibalize sales of the Movie title to be honest. Especially at the younger end of the market where the loyalty of parents is more likely to be to whatever version of "that Transformers Power Rangers" that is currently being seen on television by their youngster(s). I suspect that the cross-pollination effect isn't likely to increase the readership of of the movie title, more the reverse. Karl

Looking at the sales figures, it looks like the newsstand has taken a big hit. Big drops in sales across the board. Though Doctor Who Adventures figures are not as bad as they look as its switched from fortnightly to weekly.
I'll be very interested in Animated's sales.

I was always very suprised that Titan chose to make 'Animated' a seperate comic at all - I was expecting the main (Movie) TF title to have a bit of a face lift to 'Animated' whist this was in the limelight, whilst still catering for the movieverse at the same time. It's not like the current comic doesn't branch out into G1 and Beast Wars already. I would prefer one single TFUK comic that has a bit of everything in it. Or better even, just like the old days when the story writers would have to work the current range of toys into the current storylines (and not just a 'seperate story/Universe') - imagine trying to do that

I wouldn't be surprised if the separate comics was at least in part down to Hasbro wanting to keep Movie and Animated as two very distinct entities.

I think any attempt to shoe-horn them all into the same comic strip would create "Timeslines" esq Fun Publications induced nightmares.

I don't know I think Furman is skilled enough to be able to incorporate the toys into the ongoing story without too much bother. I imagine the reason for the alterverse would be as it makes it easier to get licensor approval, which I imagine given the lead time of the comic is vital to get done as quickly as possible.
