In my roll as father I frequently come across some odd and occasionally downright mental Children's TV.
Today's Balamory *SHOULD* have included this song but didn't:

I can go through a list of classic kids shows that were a little on the strange side. The most recent odd kids show I've seen though is In the Night Garden which some of here are quite familiar with. I've only watched about a couple of episodes of it but some of the elements in it cause me to chuckle unintentionally.

I tried to find a decent recording of Tomliboos Clean Their Teeth for use here but there isn't one on YouTube

In some ways classic kids show Chorlton and the Wheelies can be considered odd. I used to watch it when I was very young and I used to find the concept of good characters having wheels for feet and a witch that pops up out of the ground as a means of travel were strangely weird yet also fun. Furthermore, the witch in question had a son whose leg alone was three times the size of her! As a kid I never gave it a second thought but as an adult I begun to question how a miniature green skinned witch has a giant with a normal skin colour as a son!

Probably the oddest/scariest kids TV ever made:

Clifford could have been adopted by Fenella? I never actually thought of that but it is something worth considering. She could also have put a spell on him to make him grow (she is a witch after all and she does have a spell book).

At the same time that Cosgrove Hall were making Chorlton and the Wheelies they also made another classic that can be considered odd. Jamie and the Magic Torch featured a boy who went into a strange world via a hole created by a torch and in that strange world he found some very odd characters indeed. A policeman who travels on a motorised unicycle who eats cucumber shaped trunctions, a giant rabbit who seemingly bounces around on one foot, a professor who travels around in a craft that can tunnel underground as well as fly and also a bizarre musician creature who plays an odd instrument called a Trombonium! I challenge anybody to say that isn't an odd children's show!

I challenge anybody to say that isn't an odd children's show! Jamie and the Magic Torch isn't odd. At least, I didn't think so when I was a kid - it just seemed like wherever it was Jamie went had different rules by which it worked. Chorlton and the Wheelies by contrast seemed downright alien to my young mind. Karl

As a new quasi-step father (sort of) to a 2 year old and a 6 year old. I can now say that childrens TV is weird. But the guy who plays Mr. Tumble and appears on loads of different shows is a talented chap and a genius.

Justin Fletcher
Have you seen Something Special Out & About: The High Street? Mr Tumble goes into a library, finds a book on famous tumbles, and ends up singing one of Cliff Tumble's most famous songs:
Power To All Our Friends was Cliff Richard's 1973 Eurovision Entry. It was co-written by Guy Fletcher, Justin's dad.

When I was a kid I never thought that Jamie and the Magic Torch was odd but when you look back on it with an adult perspective you can see a few oddities with the show that your young self would have easily missed. One show however that I thought even as a kid was a little bit odd was Dr Snuggles. There's a few things that don't seem quite right with that cartoon!

Woogie and the Singing Sheep? The Cosmic Cat? Uncle Fred and his Lobster Machine? Rickety-Rick the walking shed? The Dreamy Boom-Boom? The Multi-Whereabouts machine?
Nobby Mouse???

Yesterday I gave this topic a bit more thought and I remembered this animated movie that I saw as a kid that I thought was quite odd at the time and, upon checking up on it via the net I still think its a bit odd today. The film is called Heidi's Song and was based on the well known story of the mountain girl Heidi and was made circa 1980 by Hanna Barbera Productions. Near the beginning of the film there was a weird dream sequence that I remembered vividly (I watched it again recently on Youtube) and an equally weird sequence near the end which seemed to go on forever and featured a bloke dancing with his horse while him, the horse and everything around them turned multiple colours!
Another animated film I enjoyed as a kid (but haven't seen for many a year) that I thought was a little odd was Sparky's Magic Piano. I remember the voice of the piano clearly and it sounded like somebody was speaking down a harmonica! Although not in the same league of strangeness as Heidi's Song I still thought it was a little odd as a kid.

Totally. Used to love Chockablock.
Hmm. 1981! I'd have guessed later than that if you'd asked. Wasn't Fred Harris Chockabloke?

It must have been repeated later on. I was only 3 in 1981 so too young to be able to remember it this clearly. I really liked the vehicle the presenter would drive in.
There was also a bloke but I don't know who he was.
